If the rereleased the complete package, sans on foot levels, with modern graphics, and VR support, that would be GotY material.

No worries - I've just seen "Rogue Squadron" a few times on the forum this week and wondered if there was some kind of N64/Gamecube resurgence!
@Rogueywon Yes, sorry about that. Posting and juggling texts with my daughter. One of her dogs is at the Vets with liver problems. -

Registered 12 years agoDeath Stranding is the best game I've played this year but it came out last year I guess. I'm always a year behind in these threads as I very rarely buy new games. -

Registered 16 years agoOn the flip side of this thread, Dirt 5 is the worst game I've played this year. Admittedly, I try to avoid the obvious stinking turds, but I had a soft spot for Dirt 4.
Dirt 5, however, is a barebones attempt to get some quick cash in before the next-gen consoles hit. It looks like a late-era 360 game and is missing some features that have been standard in racing games since the PS2 (like the ability to see what's behind you when in first-person view). -

Registered 15 years agoDisappointed at the lack of Streets of Rage 4 support. It's clear the best game this year.
I was gonna say Jedi Fallen Order but it was released last year apparantly.
I would also say Star Wars Squadrons except I'm shit at it - even though it is exactly what I thought I wanted. -

Yeah, it's probably Hades. It looks great, plays great, great story, characters, and basically everything else. It's not perfect, but I can't think of a better game released this year.

Registered 17 years agoI have only played 3 games released in 2020 and based off those:
Ghost of Tsushima. It was also the most fun in a sp I have had this year, brilliant game.
Very honourable mention to Gears tactics, based on about an two hours played. My pc was not powerful enough. Tomorrow it is out on Xbox so I will be able to get stuck in properly.
Most time spent on a game this year:
Gears 3. -

Registered 14 years agoGhost of Tsushima, as it's the only game released this year that I've played. Oh, REmake 3 as well.
Games I've most enjoyed would be Death Stranding and Red Dead Redemption 2. I'm very glad to have played and got absorbed in those two. -

Registered 7 years agoGhost of Tsushima for me, I think, but I've mostly played older games this year (and board games). Just got Star Wars Squadrons, and that seems to be good, but literally only played for about 1 hour, so not qualified to judge yet. -

Registered 14 years agoTLOU2 was so far ahead of the pack for me. Almost perfection. There were one or two moments that felt like a slog but I think that is more due to me wanting to get to the end and not really taking my time with it. -

Registered 14 years agoI've found this year really terrible for games - hopefully Cyberpunk will save it.
TLoU2 was a big disappointment for me and I'm struggling to think of much that's stood out.
Maybe Half Life: Alyx? But I'm still nowhere near finished that. I have a niggling feeling I'm forgetting something but it probably can't have been that memorable if so.
Wasteland 3 and Tony Hawk's were fun but not GotY material. 13 Sentinels started out promising but I lost interest quite quickly.

Registered 16 years agoLooking at my entries in the "52 games in 52 weeks" thread for this year, I've scored lots of games in the 7-8 range, but very few (from 2020) above that. For me, this has been a year of "it's ok" and "nearly but not quite".
TLOU2 had stellar production values, but I didn't like the combat and found Ellie so unlikeable that it became a bit of a blocker for me. Ghost of Tsushima had some wonderful moments, but padded its playtime more than its core gameplay loop could sustain. The FF7 remake had some fantastic ideas, and I loved what they did with the story, but the combat kinda sucked. RE:Make 3 was ok while it lasted, but over insanely quickly and not a patch on the previous game. -
I think i'd have to say Ghost of Tsushima - which is a great game, i'm just surprised looking through my trophy list at the lack of real contenders this year.
Honourable mention to Moving Out though - it did a decent job of filling the Overcooked 2 shaped hole in my life.
