PS5s on eBay

Hi - have been looking at prices some of the PS5s are going for on eBay purely out of curiosity - no way would I pay over retail for something you'll (hopefully) be able to get your hands on for MSRP in a few months. But some of the auction amounts are eye-watering - there's one on there at the moment for £6,600 with something like 11 bids. Is that real? I just wonder how it'd actual feel to spend that sort of money then see someone just walk into and out of a shop paying £450 for the very same thing in a few weeks. How would you justify an extra £6k for a few weeks of playing a console?

There are scalpers, and then there are counter scalpers who use scripting tools to place ridiculous bids to sabotage sales.

I wouldn't be surprised that those prices are attracting outright fraud where scammers are selling PS5s that don't exist.

Ah oh thanks - I did wonder that, as in surely no-one is prepared to actually pay money like that. Kinda pleased people counter-scalp. The whole thing is pretty messed up!

I'm busy trying to scalp the counter scalpers.

Also, some people are incredibly rich and don’t give a fuck about £6k.

Who’s to say? If you’re a content creator it might make financial sense to drop 6k for a ps5?

If you’re paying six grand you’re an idiot. They seem to be averaging around 7-8 hundred when I’ve looked.

If you're a content creator you're most likely to have been given a PS5.

Seems to be fairly random from the YouTube channels I watch. The companies (WhatCulture, Escapist etc) seem to have gotten 1 per company, so only one of their presenters have one and the others had to buy their own or go without.

And about 50% of the one person channels seemed to have bought their own. Seems that they either got a PS5 and a XSX or neither. To the point it looks like Sony just copied MS’s distribution list.

I think some fools are willing to pay up to a grand for one but that would be the maximum

There was a chap on twitter the other day that was just putting a £25k bid on everyone of them for a laugh to annoy the scalpers

The first reply was along the lines of 'Aww man, they could be someone who has lost their job and has no option but to sell their PS5 to feed their family'

    Yeah right

A pupil of mine tells me he bought 4 ps5s for 900 each
using daddy's credit card and has sold them all by raffleing them at 80 quid a ticket at 14 tickets on each...

Made 200 on each of them and kept a 5th for himself for free.

I kind of applaud his efforts, but he is still legitimising the scalpers in the first place.

If anyone wants quick cash they can get £600 cash from CEX the same day to feed a starving family.

    Photo of a PS5, going for £22k.
Might buy it, copy it in my printer and sell some knock off versions for a few grand each!

    £34k, it'd better be framed.
Maybe we should all ask the seller?

Think someone has clocked that there "might" be something fishy about it. Pooed myself at first as I got an email saying the highest bidder had cancelled there bid. But a minute later I got another one saying my bid had been cancelled. The value of the sale seems to be trickling down as bids are cancelled.

And sold for a bargain £620.
I hope people are still fucking with the seller and some poor bastard doesn't think they're getting an actual console.
