New thread for 2021! After never managing more than 38 (which I hit twice), 2020 I managed 72...! This year will be significantly less due to being back on exams but absolutely massacred the backlog! Still have about 100 games on it but severe progress made. |

Registered 15 years agoAfter 3 consecutive failures, I completed this again in 2020. Guess lockdown was good for something.
I've got a good few games on the go heading into 2021, but many of them are seriously long, so not sure how much of a flying start I'll get. -

Registered 14 years agoFailed by a hair, 50 games. I could have completed it by choosing a couple super short games, but I made it a point not to play stuff just for the sake of this challenge.
On a side note, sign me up again this year. -

Registered 14 years agoA poor showing of 32 for me with a few long games that I didn't quite finish in time. I don't think I have achieved 35 yet and I keep planning shorter games and failing... Ah well, Call of the Sea on GP should be a quick first game for the year... -

Registered 16 years agoI ended up with 30 completions last year (I only count a game once the credits roll) which was a huge improvement on my previous three years or 19,15 and 19 again. Obviously the huge amount of time I was furloughed helped with the task.
As previous year I do not count games that I "park" I also count "episodic" games i.e. TWD as one game and not 5!...you know who you are lol and dlc unless stand alone is just added to the game it is for and not given its own entry.
On that bombshell, let the playing and completions commence. My "main" game and first completion should be Immortals FR unless the platforming pisses me off too much as it has a good many times! otherwise a great game. -

Registered 9 years agoI only managed 30 games in 2020, exactly the amount I managed the year before. At least it's consistent? House move coming up will mean I'm unlikely to get a good start on anything this year either despite picking up quite a few games in various sales. -

Good work
From your games I have completed JFO, Deus Ex, Ghost, Metro, Terminator (my ONLY Plat on ps, I did complete SOMA as well but no plat for that game!) and Minecraft Dungeons.
I have played a further 7. -

Registered 13 years agoSet myself a target of 15 in 2020 (yeah, I know, but I don’t have a lot of spare time) and fell short by 1. I did play through a couple of monsters though (starting with RDR2 may have been a mistake). Guess this year’s target is to beat that, then. -

Registered 18 years agoI managed sixteen completions in 2020 and I was happy with that as I tend to favour long-ass games like jrpgs and farming sims, so my 2021 target is going to be the same.
It may not seem like much but I remember a time when I would complete precisely fuck all in a year, flitting from game to game with minimal progression. -

Registered 18 years agoHaving just signed up for the acronym thread, this one terrifies me every year. It's like gaming as a job. Be amazed if I finished many more than 10-15 games last year -

1. 01/01 - Heretic II (PC) - 6/10
Started it yesterday, finished today. A very short and forgettable end for Raven's series. I wonder if we'll ever see a reboot someday.

Registered 14 years ago1. Call of the Sea (PC) (1/1/21) (9/10)
Played this on Gamepass and got both endings (not all secrets but may have a mop up run later as got 575/1000 Gamerscore).
Pretty and atmospheric mystery/love story with a rare middle aged female lead (I suppose Edith Finch does too...) exploring a strange island near Tahiti to find her missing husband. A bit of walking sim (a little too slow to walk even with the run button) and a bunch of logic puzzles which mostly made sense (with 1 I had to guess on one chapter that didn't seem to fit the pattern). Story, voice acting, art style and music all work really well. Not overlong either. A few odd bugs on PC (or the MS version anyway where video clips of the husband narrating letters was always blank (and 1 bonus clip near the end I had to Youtube) and a clipping error where I got myself stuck were only real issues. Englsh subs didn't always match the 'letters' or speech bit this was by a small foreign devteam so forgivable.
Worth a play if you like first person adventure games.
Next may be a Halo or Gears 5 Hivebusters on PC and Yakuza 7 needs finished on PS4... -

You could have Hivebusters done in around 2.5/3hours. Excellent albeit pretty short dlc, good back story on the characters though 👍 -

Yeah, I enjoyed 5 and figured this would be short and pleasantly surprised it was included on GPU (of which I am doing the 3 month trial for a quid so prioritising GO stuff on PC for now)

#1 - 02/01 - The Last Campfire (PS5) Platinum
Lovely little puzzle game, very enjoyable.
Currently 40 hours into Assassin's Creed Valhalla, dabbling in FIFA21 and Fuser whilst working on the DLC of Overcooked 2 with my brother online. -

Registered 14 years ago1. Call of the Sea (PC) (1/1/21) (9/10)
2. Gears 5: Hivebusters (PC) (3/1/21) (9/10)
Another Gamepass game, and nice to see a decent single player DLC for this style of game. More focussed than the main game, pretty environments, some cool set pieces and likable characters. Boss fight wasn't too annoying either. Finished with all 'collectibles' but missed 2 upgrades (on normal difficulty). Seems I was 30 minutes out from making this a 2nd Jan game too.
Not sure what is next, maybe more shorter Gamepass games to give myself an unusual headstart. -

#1 04/01 Immortals Fenyx Rising
Pretty good even if it's pretty much a massive BOTW rip-off. Some of the puzzle vaults are incredibly tedious, but I found the combat and exploration fun. -

2. Gears 5: Hivebusters (PC) (3/1/21) (9/10)
3. Carrion (PC) (4/1/21) (9/10)
And another GamePass game done and dusted. Carrion, an action horror game where ypu play the tentacly monster. This game appealed from when I first saw it. The creature animation is lovely and the 16 bit style pixel art looks really nice. Very fitting sound effects too. The srory is pretty much visual but does the job. Gameplay is fun with a rnage of abilities unlocking as you progress and opening up new areas (Metroidvania style). Biggest flaw is the lack of a map can lead to confusion where to go next sometimes. Probably about 4-6 hours to complete which is enough to not get repetitive. Fun game.
Next GP game, unknown, 2 months of it to take advantage of. Had a play kf Halo CE on MC Collection and it has aged badly (enjoyed it on Xbox release) but plan to play through them as never finished 2 nor played the rest. -

2. 05/01 - Duke Nukem Manhattan Project (PC) - 6/10
Not as short as it looks, and somewhat repetitive after a while. I wonder if people in 2002 were still hyped for Duke Nukem Forever. Clearly this was just supposed to satisfy them for a while. It's not bad overall though, so... job done. -

Registered 15 years ago1) 06/01 - Halo ODST (PC) - 7/10
And I'm off. Continuing my co-op sweep through the Halo games. ODST is an odd one. I appreciate that it tried to be more narratively-ambitious than the usual "Shooty Spaceman vs the Evil Aliens" Bungie nonsense, but the game itself feels disjointed.
Also, my god the visuals look a lot like Cyberpunk on the last-gen consoles. -

4. Tell Me Why! (PC)
4.1 Episode 1 (7/1/21) (8/10)
Played through the first episode (on Gamepass) and enjoyed it. A few flaws where early choice responses seemed contradicted by following attitudes but I can live with that. The story has an interesting enough start and the characters are generally pretty well done. Prettier game than I expected too. I ummed and ahhed over giving a 7.5 or 8 bit gave it benefit of the doubt. Enjoyed it more than the Life is Strange prequel. -
...and I'm off!
1: Immortals F.R. (xbox) beat on 08/01/21: 7/10
Tricky one really, I enjoyed a lot but got frustrated even more than that. Almost sacked around 3 times where I just did not have the patience for the sometimes lengthy Vaults. In fairness I'm not really a platformer type player and this does share a lot with that style of game albeit in a very nice and expansive open world. I found it "grindy" and even after nearly 40 hours played, I had loads of equipment and potions to upgrade as well as a plethora of things to see and do in the world.
