| Not really feeling it tbh. Another couple of demos to try out but I don't think I will be rushing to get this. |

Registered 2 years agoSo I just sat down to try their ridiculous fucking demo and it’s telling me another ill-defined and brief window of play will begin in a week. What a waste of a 10Gb download, sent them a hearty fuck you tweet to go on the pile. Who’s going to be able to play between 8am and 9am on a Monday ffs. -

Registered 16 years agoHere's hoping they patch it so it functions like a normal demo once the game is released. They did that with the RE3 remake demo, if I remember correctly.
I'm a big Resi fan but I think I'll wait until it's on sale rather than dive in at full price. -

To be fair it's a pretty *justified* complaint -

Registered 15 years agoIt's a valid complaint and criticism. It's no excuse to be an asshole to game developers. Now tbf, I don't know exactly what he said. All I have to go one is "a hearty fuck you". -

Registered 4 years agoI think I'm in the.. 30 minutes isn't enough for this type of game. Would have been better doing a prologue or like the maiden demo. Still gave me enough of a taster to know what to expect and I'm definitely purchasing. Feels sort of RE4 mixed with RE7. -

Registered 6 years agoUnless the next demo changes my mind I think this one might have saved me paying the launch price.
I get that it was super short and (presumably) super early in the game so its hard to properly grasp the vibe. But I didn’t feel the gameplay itself either. -

Registered 8 years agoThe trailer makes it look pretty good. Im not a massive Resi fan but I did like 4 and 7. The levels look massive and I quite like the Hammer vibe to it. -

Registered 15 years agoWas a weird demo tbh, obviously seems like it will fit better in context of the actual game, but a RE demo that's mainly cutscene and only 1 enemy encounter seems a bit odd. The combat too wasn't great in the same way that RE7 combat didn't feel great. -

Yeah, I know what you mean. I think, for me, its the still slightly archaic structure even with all the updates.

If Ive got the right key in my inventory and I approach a door that takes it, just fucking use it. I dont want to combine the key with the door after half a dozen button presses. -

Registered 8 years agoBut I suppose those little idiosyncrasies are what makes Resi what it is and what people who are big fans want and expect. For better or worse. -

Registered 16 years agoOh yeah, I get that. Just like the save typewriters but Im over it now and holdovers like that just get in the way of actually enjoying the game.
And, to be fair, half the puzzles are picking up an object and finding what it interacts with, so you still do need that element if you are going to carry on doing that.
I dunno.... I just find a lot of it annoyingly old fashioned. Which I know is the point but Im over it. -

Registered 12 years agoThing is, they kind of hit a very nice middle ground for all that fluff between RE4/RE5 (RE5 probably went a bit too far in the opposite direction, but still) and went way too far back on it. An RE4 style progression/interaction/puzzles with RE5 style checkpointing would be kinda ideal for me. I equally can't be arsed with the manufactured clunkiness that much any more. -

Registered 4 years agoYou can't win. They remove the archaic puzzles and they get criticized. It comes back and its RE of old! -

Registered 16 years agoNo, you cant but that mechanic is 25 years old. At some point youve got to let it go. Most people playing RE probably werent even born when the first game came out, its just old whiners on the internet.
And, yeah, I enjoyed RE7 but if Im being honest, I think RE5 is still my favourite. -

Registered 12 years agoIt's not the puzzles. The puzzles are fine. It's the crap like nick mentioned. If I've got a key for a door I'm coming up to, just let me press X on the door and it opens, done. Menus within menus for the sake of it. I'm playing RE2:Remake at the minute and there are so many little things that could be refined that wouldn't mess with the atmosphere at all, but make my experience more positive it baffles me. -

Registered 8 years agoI just couldn't get on with 5 it was the beginning of the end for me with the franchise until 7 brought me back. The mechanics of being unable to move while shooting just about worked in 4 but 5 really ruined the balance a s obviously 6 was just a fucking trainwreck. -

Registered 15 years agoI agree with Nick. I'm currently replaying resident Evil 0 and the inventory restrictions are not a challenge, they're just a massive pain in the ass.
That saying, I also replayed RE4 recently and absolutely loved that. -

Registered 4 years agoYeah I don't think 0 is a good example considering you get to a point where you dump your entire inventory in the mansion lobby because you got no space..
Anyway just seems like a really small point to get upset about to me. That to me is RE and I'm happy with it. -

Registered 12 years agoI think 5 gets lumped in with 6 a bit too much. It's streamlined, sure and made a bit more mainstreamy but it wasn't the total bastardisation some people like to claim. I've probably played that one more than any other in the series, simply because it's more accessible. -

I think 7 and the Remakes got the balance right.
4-6 to various degrees scaled back the survival horror in ways I didn’t enjoy but 7 brought back the claustrophobia and creepiness.
I’m generally of the opinion that whenever the series tries to go big it loses something of what makes it so great for me. And that includes 4.
I hope Village isn’t going to make the same mistake and shows some restraint.
