Quite cheap on cdkeys. I liked RE7 and this looks like a fairly safe bet, so I've taken the plunge.

I didn't touch the demo as want to go in fresh. Have to say I'm quite looking forward to it now.

I even booted up RE6 over the weekend and finished Leon's campaign.

The difference between RE6 and RE7 is phenomenal ha ha. 6 is insane. I think there were about 20 huge explosions in the space of 10 minutes towards the end - whole cities decimated. They did such a good job bringing the series back to earth (well, in comparison).

I think 8 will be somewhere inbetween but I'm fully on board now.

RE6 was shit, one of the worst RE games including the shitty MP games they keep trying to do

While I'm a huge fan of the series, for some reason the switch from 3rd to 1st person made it too scary for me, couldn't get through 7, even though I loved the atmosphere.

I did manage to get through the castle demo. But I sort of felt like I had enough, I don't think I could take a prolonged session. I've been watching the videos with interest though, so am still undecided.

Probably should try the village demo and see how I feel.

It is incredibly hard to love. It's so over the bloody top all the time that it's exhausing to play through, and not in a good way. I really liked 5 as well so was looking forward to 6 but I remember getting it on release, managing Leon's campaign and dropping it midway through Chris' first level.

The first part of Leon's campaign is actually decent, almost classic RE. Then it does a big smelly jobby all over it's own back.

7 was so good I was stunned. Fucking loved it.

    @wuntyate

There was also a lot of hate for 5, which i personally really enjoyed. Leons campaign in 6 was ok, the rest...terrible!

The audio on the PS5 demo with headphones is just out of this world. Some of the sounds seem to come from so far away, somewhere in the castle, that I actally took of the headphones to make sure noone is breaking and entering.

I really hope the latest multiplayer abomination is a standalone instal like it was with RE3. I donít need my memory clogged with something Iím never once going to open.

    Series S
    Xbox One

Well, I thought worse... although they still didn't lock the framerate to 30fps, so it kinda jumps at times.

Do headshot do more damage in this? Doesn't feel like it. Takes a million head shots to down anything.

@Bichii That's fairly typical though isn't it? Playing through RE2 and 3 remakes recently and it's the same. Headshots count for shit, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same here. Can't remember what it took to down the molded in RE7 but I don't ever remember having enough ammo, put it that way. RE4 was full of bullet sponges as well.

Is it not something like headshots only increase the chances of a critical hit by a small margin? I'm sure I read something like that for one of the other games so, again, maybe the same for this?

    Got it

Ethan is actually in a coma and has become mind-linked with Albert Wesker whose consciousness had survived RE5 and was living on within the virus. The four families are historic rivals who each tried to control the virus in the past. By defeating them Ethan unknowingly frees the path for Wesker to take possession of his body and the game ends with ďEthanĒ putting on shades and trenchcoat as he leaves the hospital, one of his eyes flashing orange just as the credits roll.

Of all of the series that could do with a full, "cold" reboot - ditch all the backstory and lore and start over with a clean slate - Resident Evil must be pretty close to the top of the list.

Maybe just behind Metal Gear Solid.

One of the things I liked about 7 was the fact it needed very little knowledge of the wider series.

Yes, it's more than a little convoluted now. I just don't pay attention any more.

Is there a good umbrella now or something? I don't get any of it. I don't think I understood it past the intro of RE1 though.

I did like RE7 and the fact it seemed to be coming at it all fresh, with it's Evil Dead meets Texas Chain Saw vibes. That fight with spider tits was probably one of the most unsettling encounters I've ever had in a game as well.

This is going all gothic horror, and although I was a little less keen on that idea, I think I'm on board now. What little I've seen just looks so immersive.

    Bloody hell.

    Or an alternative abridged version:

Guys in a lab made a virus that made people go all melty, mental and dead / not dead possibly because some other guys paid them to do it and then Chris punched a rock as lots of things exploded.

Thatís why I stick to 1, 2, 3 and 7 being the canonical ones. Keeps it to secret lab, outbreak and revival without any superhero level antics.

RE4 is the only one I could stand BECAUSE it mostly rejects the convoluted nonsense of all the previous games. I enjoyed Remake and Remake 2 well enough, but the thought of playing a dozen games that were more or less just more of that plot ďbut Wesker ISNíT dead, again! Now with Q-VirusĒ. Four gave a deliriously B grade but still very inventive-feeling new enemy and a string of memorable protagonists, with the confidence to let them all be dead at the end of the game.

Unfortunately, 5 was straight back to ďno itís all about Umbrella and Wesker and 15 viruses derp derp.Ē I didnít make it past the first few minutes of 6.
