It comes to something when that’s tame though.

Giro starts Saturday with a 9k TT. Bernal favourite for the overall then Evanpoel, which is kind of mad as he's not raced since breaking his leg. Course looks good, competition looks a bit thin on the ground, usual Giro really.
    Pelvis wasn't it?

I doubt I'll be able to see much of the giro. :-/

@Salaman Yea got mixed up with Froome, still, 21, done no GTs, out for 6 months no racing and still nearly favourite for the Giro.

He’s the right end of the age spectrum to do a better recovery than Froome has managed, but I can’t see him right up there. Can’t have the endurance for the latter half after six months not racing Shirley?

It’s his back that took him out of action, scoliosis or something. Thomas did his pelvis on the water bottle last year. The whole story with Bernal is weird, he’s a TDF winner and team leader at the best funded team with a reputation for microanalysing everything possible, scores of medical experts and bike fitters, yet no one noticed he had one leg longer than the other and a curved spine?

    Remco: pelvis
    Bernal: back

    Remco: no racing since 2020
Bernal: 3rd at Strade Bianche; no racing since 4th at Tirreno-Adriatico

I reckon a dark horse like Masnada, or finally Mikel Landa.

Yeah, I'm sure he worked hard and trained hard to come back in top shape but logic always dictates you need 'race Kilometers' to do well in competition.
Although that is slowly getting questioned.

I think it would be absolutely fine if he rides along anonymously but I wouldn't be surprised if he manages to show himself on a few carefully selected days.

    "I'm still a bit bulky"

Amazing how close to the line of eating disorders many cyclists skirt. If that's him "bulky" in that picture, Jesus Christ.

Hopefully they have people that can stop them too recover if they cross the line. Not sure how it is in cycling but in cross country skiing, a sport where's there are a similar advantage to be as light as possible, there's been several high profile cases lately where some of the best in the world have had to take a break from competition for several months because, well the've been too thin basically. Of course they won't say that part loud, they only say it's because of health reasons.

Well that sucks. Krists Neilands from Israel Start-up nation crashed on the way back to the hotel after the time trial. Broken collar bone and game over for this year's giro.

That's about as unlucky as you get, Ganna's radio stopped working I think, pointed to his ear and made the Italian wavey hand sign for 'not working'.

I was impressed with Ganna not bothering with a rain jacket: I hope he doesn't come down with anything.

Man, riding in a peloton all day looks so stressful.
Except if you're Sagan I guess.

Something about the camera lens makes it look like they’ve all got their saddles dropped, like they never straighten their legs out

Fucking hell. Just watching the highlights and some poor cyclist just got run into by a support car.

Wtf? Two cars passing stuff berween them and driver plainly not watching the road ahead. Guess they'll be getting p45'd after that.

Looks like he ok (up and walking before being put on a stretcher) but that was a grim crash for Mohoric. Properly bounced of his noggin.

Yeah, grim on that. Catapulted over the bars so hard that it feels like his brake must have locked on, though maybe that was the beginning of the forks snapping.
