I can't help but think that this is the PlayStation's The Medium, in the fact that it's an early exclusive and expectations are maybe being set a little high, with some gamers not being familiar with the studio's previous releases.

I know someone who works at the studio and he and most of the team internally are pissed off with Sony's pricing decision.

I just find it completely unexciting. I'm sure someone will soon come along to tell me how wrong I am but I'm just not feeling it based on what I've seen and read.

None of the videos have really done it for me but they do make very fun games so I'm kind of looking forward to it.

What do you mean? The high cost?

@Bichii There must be a certain amount of frustration at the low install base, due to the lack of consoles in the first place.

I'm sure it's a reference to it being 70 quid.

Yeah the £70 price. Tag. Apparently it is not a very long game according to him and they feel there will be a bit of a backlash about it and they will get the blame and not Sony.

Being honest, any PS5 focused game is welcome right now. It's a bit barren at the moment and I found myself actually considering re-buying Godfall for a fucking insane minute the other day when it was on sale. I do quite like the look of it, even if I don't really get on with roguelikes normally.

I thought it was a 'roguelike'... So it's not infinitely replayable in that sense?

So there's more of a story to it?

(£61.61 on shopto right now, which is a little better than the RRP which is rediculous anyway)

Not entirely sure that's a fitting comparison, Bloober and Housemarque are two very different studios with very different output and reputation. Housemarque are pretty much *the* AAA studio of arcade games.

@UncleLou I agree they’re very different studios. My comparison is more related to the expectations from gamers and such.

The Medium comparison makes sense to me in both games positioning on their respective consoles release schedules.

I get the vibe we’ll be seeing both on list features about forgotten early titles in five years time

Yeah I feel that. I imagine Godfall will be top of that list.

Well, we'll see. That certainly happened neither to Resogun nor Stardust Ultra, nor were Bloober ever suspected to release the next instant classic. It might be filed under "way too expensive when it launched", though.

It really does look a bit like LP, but I expect it'll play more like a shinier Risk of Rain 2.

Have to admit, I completely lost what little interest I had in this game once I realised it was a £70.00 release. There is zero chance I will be buying this now.

I feel sorry for Housemarque here. Sony have squandered any chance of this game doing well.

    @richyroo Does Sony own Housemarque?

@Wayne No, but the game is published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

    Whats your point?

I’m not feeling it. Housemarque games are arcade magic and this looks like it might be similar but in 3D. £70? Never.

@Wayne OK, sorry. I read into your post something that wasnt there.

The game is published by Sony, so it is Sony which have set the price of this game, just like all their 1st party releases.

Sony can go do one if they think I am paying £70 for any of the 1st party releases. It is so arrogant of them to just push this new price point across ALL of their games.

Am in several minds about this. Firstly the price is a no go, so unless I can get very cheap credit (20% off at least) I will wait for a sale.

I really like the the setting and theme of the story. Yet I'm not a massive fan of the way it seems to marry up fast pace action with horror. I want my horror coming from bad and nasties being few and far between.

If it ends up being too hard then I wont ever persevere as it will be like dying and making little progress. If too easy then it will just be a shootathon where you need to just avoid the incoming fire as a bit of a 3d twin stick shooter (which I'm really not interested in from a gameplay perspective).

A difficult thing to balance fast paced traversal in a world full of nasties where the gameplay loop is to die and progress through what you learn on the way. Fast paced combat/traversal plus exploration and story just doesnt add up.

The learn, die progress loop of outerwilds was perfect, but through in combat to that gameplay loop and I think it becomes a challenge to keep it appealing.

Still, if it reviews well then I will prob jump in for the next gen shiny.

I do like the look of this quite a lot, but not for £70. I can see this becoming a running theme for the PS5...

I don't really know why we're still doing the RAAAA SEVENTY QUID thing. I agree it's a bit steep but that's the gonna be the going rate for full fledged next gen games for a little while. I'm sure it will go down in a year or two but we've had a few months to come to terms with it now. Is what it is.
