@SolidSCB But itís not the going rate, itís just Sonyís and a handful of other publishers rate. We need to keep voicing our dissatisfaction and refuse to buy their games until deep discounts, to send them a message.

It would have to be the sequel to one of my favourite games from an absolute top developer to even consider spending £70 on a game. Shame as there's fuck all to play at the moment.

As much as I enjoyed their previous games, I'm very much in the "£70??!?! Fuck that noise!" camp.

It's vote with your wallet time unless you want this to become the norm, and I'll be holding off on Ratchet & Clank for the same reason.

Recall it working very well when Demon's Souls pulled the same trick. Boycotting their flagship IP would have made for a much stronger gamers rise up moment than some roguelike that probably won't sell very well anyway.

Yeah when this tanks theyíll blame the game not the price and the next tentpole title like will sell a billion copies at £70 regardless

Have to agree with the ď£70?!! Nope...Ē comments.

I may consider picking it up once itís about half that price.

I did pay £70 for Demonís Souls as I wanted the shiny to play on my new console day one, but besides that I think itís only Horizon 2 that Iíd consider paying full price for. Even Ratchet can wait.

I wont preorder but if its good and the consensus is that its good then I will be grabbing it. I love their games and am keen to see what they can do now they are scaling their project up a bit.

I preordered with shopto for £61,but that allows me to cancel any time.

I'll be watching the price for this also, I just didn't want to miss the chance to get it for that price, in case it shoots back up.

But £70, or more for some bullshit edition, is too much and they know it
  • Deleted user 19 February 2021 20:38:11
It really needs to tank. Ditto R&C.

I hate that it's a developer I like in the firing line, but I prefer to see them have a flop than for this price tag be normal going forward.

If they throw some tat in (basically give you the deluxe stuff) each time then they may have a better time but they arenít doing that. They just throw another 20 on top 🙄

For £70 they could at least put her in a nice thong and suspenders.

Looks great. If I had the hardware I'd lap this up like a parched Spaniel.

It looks really nice. Housemarque have made some great games, but 70 quid?

    Yeesh.

To be fair, it's more like £61 on shopto

We should probably call this '£70: The Game'

Nice new trailer. I like what I see.

To be fair to Housemarque this does look like a really polished and good game. And they certainly have the pedigree.

But it still feels like a big gamble to part with £70 right now...

I just feel that waiting for reviews and perhaps a price cut in a month or two is the sensible option.

I do feel a little bit bad saying that though... I hope the game is successful and doesnít get unfairly labelled as a ďflopĒ if it doesnít too the charts day one.

It looks good. I can see me begrudgingly stumping up the cash for this, though I do think it's too expensive even at 61 quid.

If I had the money, a PS5 and the reviews came in good I would buy in an instant.
If you squint, there's not much difference between 45 and 70 quid, or 61 if you're smart.
For many, a new game release will come with a takeaway and a bottle of booze on the side.
Hell, the way I used to burn through disposable income was frightening, been blowing my cash on videogames for 40 years.

Hoping a game fails and developers get their fingers burnt is a bit of an extreme viewpoint.

Yeah. It looks good, I love Housemarque, and I am desperate enough for dedicated next-gen games that I am pretty sure I'll buy it. I do find it a bit too epensive as well, but if I am honest, I barely know anything about the game, and it's an enirely subjective feeling. So I might as well buy it... :p

That's a pretty uninspiring trailer. What sort of game is it?

You have to wonder if they have a butt animation specialist... That's some damn fine work at 1:10! :D

I do wonder why this game is the one that's being singled out for the pricing strategy. Sony announced the pricing months before the PS5 launched and there were 5 or so games that already released at that point.

I don't think it's a thing that's changing now, and I fully expect more publishers to jump on board over the next year as they start to deliver next-gen specific content.

I'm guessing because it doesn't look like a full priced game to start with.

@Derblington Itís not really singled out, is it? Everyone laughed about Godfall, everyone bought Demonís Souls with gritted teeth, but hey, itís Demonís souls, and you need *something* in the new console. What else is priced this highly?

Besides, itís from a developer who has only ever done cheaper arcade games, and itís in a genre thatís typically lower priced.

So itís two factors, really: the price is generally seen as too high, for any game, and this doesnít really feel like a AAA full price game for a variety of reasons.

I'd say the only extreme viewpoint on display here is "there's not that much difference between 45 and 70 quid".

For many, the 70 quid price point means that those new games no longer come with a takeaway and booze. Even if you're "smart" and get it for 61, that price has still eaten your takeaway (pardon the pun).

Or if a few games like say hmm, Returnal tank at retail because of the price they might think twice about it.
