I would describe convincing yourself to dislike a game you know absolutely nothing about as joyless yes.
I would describe the game I saw as a soulless licensed cash grab just like most of the other Alien games. I hope I'm wrong and you're right.

It's born from a film series that has probably had more shit entries than good ones at this point. The bar is hardly sky high to live up to. If it just turns out to be a 7/10 popcorn action game I'd say it probably done it's job fairly well.

I have to say, on a personal note Iíve been shielding for almost a year now and the hobby Iíve followed since the early eighties with a passion is generally ďsoullessĒ these days, when Iíve more time then ever for it, Iím playing less than ever in my life and thatís a shame.

Iím as tired as the games are these days and yes Iím feeling pretty ďsoulllessĒ about it all, sell now/finish later mentality, the same things weíve seen a million times over, micro transactions. All of its a disease in this hobby and for me Iíve no time for halfarsed shit.

So yeah that cynicism is hard to hold back anymore

Games are better than ever with so much more choice, I'd say its the outside world bringing you and skewing your opinion on games.

I know Colonial Marines was pap, but personally I'm still excited by the thought of a co-op Aliens game, and I don't even like multiplayer. Outside of the films they've done some really great stuff with the license recently (some of the recent books have been pretty good, and the recent board games and RPG are excellent), so it's not like the IP is a wholesale write-off.

Pretty gutted they didn't go for a Prometheus co-op shooter.

I find the MP aspect a huge turn off, single player games don't depend on waiting in a matchmaking lobby in 2 years when everyone else forgotten has about it.

@Rum_Monkey its undoubtedly not helping but are they honestly ďbetter than everĒ thereís next to zero originality out there. Just feels like Iíve played better versions of most recent stuff I see/turn on.

Anyway this isnít a thread about me, Iíll get back in my box.

Which books? I used to enjoy them when I was younger. Also are they stand alone or would I need to be up to date with stuff.

The trilogy from a few years ago was pretty good (Out of the Shadows, River of Pain, Sea of Sorrows), and they've made them into pretty decent audio dramas on Audible too. Slightly more recently, Cold Forge was good, Prototype was definitely interesting (if a little weird), and the Bug Hunt short story compilation was fun.

Don't think you need any real prior knowledge on any of them, they're all pretty standalone.

    Multiplayer eurgh.

I'd love a new singleplayer Aliens shooter of some kind. I know that would be hard to pull off with singleplayer, that's why Isolation works so well. But still. I wanna shoot those fuckers without needing to make friends IRL

Still taste the bile from the Gearbox Aliens game. Hope they do the franchise justice, but need to be convinced.

So it's pretty much Left 4 Dead with the Aliens license? I could go for that.

They still need to re-release AVP2 on digital stores though.
