Registered 13 years agoYeah the canyon level is terrible for this, you just want to do the monster hunt but you have to kill everybody all the way back to the big door.
"Don't lead enemies to your allies!" Um, okay, I won't . ?
This is very much the sort of game where I could talk for hours about its problems, but I keep playing it because the combat is great. -

Registered 17 years agoHeh - what's interesting is that I navigate by eye most of the time rather than following the line when I'm in an area. Maybe that's why I haven't been pissed off quite as much as some of you. Because yeah, between the navigation bugs and the aggro/de-aggro, it's a mess. -

Registered 15 years agoPretty sure you get the 'you died' amount of WT drop if you end up going backwards and failing the 'don't lead enemies to your allies' countdown.
Anyway, it's a great advert for Gamepass. 20-30 hours of entertainment and done, 60 if you really want to rinse it. I've heard that its a Diablo FPS thing, but it's not really, Diablo has infinitely more variety of builds, cool item/ items sets with crazy effects, and just more things to do post story. -

Registered 16 years agoOne of my pet hates/berserk buttons irl and in games is getting lost/bad navigation, so this really ground my gears towards the end. But its rare that I will forgive a game this much of it.
Seeing the history icon on a map but not being able to select it as a waypoint was just infuriating. -

Can confirm. I got mobbed once and teleported in the wrong direction *further* away from the safe point. You get penalised the same as if you died.

This was ultimately my problem with it. Builds are so limited that loot doesnt matter after a while, its just resources for crafting the same abilities onto things with higher stats. I had effectively the same build for 70% of the game and I think it would have carried me most of the way into expeditions if I wanted. Any time I tried to change that up it quickly became clear I shouldnt.

Amend the comparison to "Diablo 3 at launch" and I think it's fair, albeit Outriders will never get Blizzard amounts of support and content. They've had a decade to sort out the endgame now.

Registered 13 years agoOnce you get into expeditions there is almost zero chance that your campaign build will carry you a significant distance, unless of course you are super-optimised. It's all about speed and synergising abilities with mods.
The legendaries are weird because it's not really about the weapon, it's about the tier 3 mods. I just got my guaranteed drop from defeating the Chrysaloid(?) and it's thrown me slightly because it doesn't actually suck, but at this point in the game there is no point (or even the ability) in upgrading it as I level up. The costs are too prohibitive, and I'll get more out of it by scrapping it and modding an AR or LMG instead. -

True enough, I still remember struggling through the original Torment level, or one hit and dead mode. I get the impression that this is all you are going to get with Outriders though, apart from future DLC.

Registered 16 years agoI think if they were going to be so stingy with legendaries and make them, basically, worthless in the campaign, they should have had T3 mods available as quest rewards. -

Registered 17 years agoThe legendaries are basically just cosmetic upgrades, which wouldn't be so bad if they didn't all seem to be Aldi H.R. Giger designs. -

Yeah, this. The game is all about the mods for me - since all the weapon classes handle pretty much identically from one example to the next, it doesn't have the gun porn going for it that Destiny has.

Registered 18 years agoIf it is any consolation, legendaries drop like candy at high level expeditions. At least 20% chance at Gold CT13 plus. Play six games or so and you will probably have about four. And the legendaries are really about their tier III mods as opposed to the items themselves, but some are cool.
I do question as to why I would be playing to get them though. Play expeditions to get items so you can err play expeditions? -

Well, yeah, but... that's the genre right? It's the same for literally all of them going back to Diablo. That's the point of 'em.

If it doesn't crash and burn, the old-skool hub and spoke arrangement makes it trivial for them to add DLC in smaller doses as we go.
Actually, I'm a bit surprised at the length of the game - there's plenty in there that could've been chopped off and served up again as DLC, and some other devs would've done just that. -

Registered 17 years agoCredits rolled. What a ride. Think I’ll mop up the side missions then maybe try some expeditions.
GotY2021 for sure.

Registered 1 year agoProbably game of the year so far for me, but the competition wasn't exactly fierce... I have no doubt it'll be toppled by pretty much anything half decent.
With a bit of DLC (and TLC!) it could be great, as it is it's an enjoyable enough ride with some glaring technical issues. -

Registered 4 years agoAre there any bad classes? Starting it today with a friend and he has picked trickster so I've got tech, tank or pyro to choose between. -

Registered 13 years agoTech is more support, has an actual heal, and engages from range. Probably useful for co-op, but I found it a bit dull early doors. Pyro is mid range, seems pretty cool. Tank is tank. -

Registered 16 years agoI would just pick the trickster, tbh. It seems the best class and you really dont need any synergy. You cant draw aggro, the enemies just shoot whatever is closest so it seems pointless to tank and sniping is, basically, worthless.

Technomancer is great for co-op and also a very powerful solo class if you spec it. Gaining heal via damage to enemies is easy mode compared to others. So my non technomancer friends tell me.
Although it is designed for long distance, high level activities do not really support that but the techno can handle close and mid anyway.
I enjoy techno very much.
