I’ve had an issue where my Xbox one and now series x has an problem with lighting in games. I assume as it’s occurred on two separate consoles it’s an issue with my Samsung tv and its driving my crazy.

On multiple games When light is displayed (particularly in the distance) the image looks very washed out and bright. It’s annoying me so much that I’m considering buying a new tv but I don’t really have the budget plus I’m concerned it won’t make any difference. Playing outriders tonight I’m in the main starting area and it looks so bright.

I’ve adjusted HDR settings etc but I can’t fix it. It could just be a poor tv. But the tv is 4K and HDR. I post here in the hope someone here has had a similar thing and a quick fix.

What's the exact model? My older Samsung didn't do auto-brightness/contrast particularly well (no sets do in my opinion) and I had to turn off all power saving settings etc and set it to specific display modes to get it to stop doing that.

I’d try turning off HDR - the smaller and cheaper Samsung sets don’t do proper HDR, in that the local dimming isn’t good enough and the panel not bright enough - the result being that it basically just whacks up the overall brightness to try and show the extra colour. I’ve got a 40inch Panasonic that has the same issue - but with HDR off it looks genuinely better. If you don’t want to do that make sure Eco mode is off and auto brightness, as mentioned above

Can't say I've ever experienced anyrhing like that on mine, I just have auto game mode on and made a couple of adjustments to backlight, brightness and contrast and have never really felt the need to touch any other settings. Slightly newer model though (NU so 2018) and different series (8xxx)

Just checking the specs of the TV, you do have local dimming which you need for HDR, BUT you don't have HDR10, this might explain a lot in regards to your issues. Your Xbox will probably confirm what your HDR capabilities are in the TV features part in the Xbox settings.
