Has anyone been obsessively switching between fidelity and performance RT mode to see what the differences are yet? And if so what are the differences?

Fidelity mode is twice as cinematic.

Not buying this. Couldnít get into the last one and found it clunky and vanilla - not sure if thatís the right description but it didnít have an edge. Just a fun platforms without the cool puzzles or edge of Mario.

Didn't him and Luigi spit roast Princess Peach in the last one?

Tried fidelity in the hour I had last night but there's so much going on in every scene with so many moving parts it just looked manky to me. Performance RT deffo the way to go, looks fantastic.

@Worlds_ Well, it really is a third person shooter more than a platformer, isn't it?

FWIW, I think this plays really, really well, and the combat is a lot of fun. It certainly doesn't feel clunky at all, and I agree that the last one did, but then I palyed it at 30fps.

I haven't started this yet as it's really my son's game which he bought with his birthday cash. I am not a monster. It's proving more challenging than I thought mind you.

Bit more awake now after my 2am post...that L1 rift tether is just so cool in the heat of battle! The split second animation is done so well in that you feel like you're pulling the rift towards you and bam! Instant flanking of the enemies.

Close second is the i-frame dodge, which is sublimely judged...great in battle and also better traversal-wise than the floaty double-jump for crossing horizontal gaps.

These two things alone have freshened up the usual R&C formula for me...if I wasn't struggling to keep my eyes wedged open, I could have easily played this through the night! Too old for that now, alas.

Oh I do, he has his own account. I'd still feel like a bit of a shit though.

Is it easier to resist playing the game or playing the game on another account and keeping quiet, faning surprise when you see the start again?

    The choice is yours. 😁

Fidelity does look better (more detail, screen effects, object density) but it feels pretty bad. Camera pans are juddery.
PerfRT feels great, loses all the judder, and looks very good still. It's a cleaner image in general, just with a bit less going on. Definitely my preferred option.

It's the first game I've played on PS5 where I haven't really had to work hard to see the more obvious effects of RT at play. The dynamic reflections in particular are really quite something, even in Performance RT.

You're a bigger man than me. I do like the idea of using his money to buy the games I want though, pretty smooth.

Ha, yeah. Having started a play through of Spiderman Remastered recently I'd kinda forgot the difference the SSD makes having mostly played PS4 stuff over the last few months. Being able to launch and get the game started in under 10 seconds is such a difference maker.

I'm not a massive R+C fan tbh. I've played the others but never put many hours in or finished them. I just want to see the shinies. He loves them though and had his eye on it for ages.

Fuck me... Any videos I've seen really don't do this game justice. It's absolutely lovely to witness first hand (went straight for performance + RT mode)

Only had a chance to play for less than an hour but love what I've played so far (big fan of the series so it'd have to try hard to disappoint me in fairness)

Its just completely frozen my ps5. Crashed about 10 mins in and I had to unplug it as it was completely unresponsive.

Its now booting in safe mode and only giving me the option to reset the ps5 by reinstalling the system software from usb drive.

    FFS

Mine wasn't AS bad, but yeah.

I started it up last night. Was loving it. It's gorgeous (played in Fidelity mode). Looks like a proper animated film. The action was fast and frenetic. Was having a great time grinding around shooting lizard meatheads.

Fought the boss and got to the moment where the logo flashes on the screen. Cutscene, then as it's panning back to Ratchet's shoulder, I notice the floor texture looks like a blurry vomit green. The games gives me control of Ratchet, but immediately he falls through the floor, dies, and black screen.

I wait about 45 seconds, it doesn't reload from checkpoint. I go to the dashboard, in hopes of force closing the game, but it's unresponsive. I quick press the PS to attempt restarting the console, but the whole system is frozen now.

Wait maybe 45 more seconds, still nothing, notice the dashboard music isn't even playing anymore. So I stand up, hold the power button on the PS5 for 10 seconds to manually force power off the console, wait another 15 seconds or so and reboot. I had to repair the external hard drive again, but fortunately there wasn't a boot to safe mode or a need to reinstall the system OS.

But yeah, the Insomniac Curse has struck my PS5 again. Something about their engine causes PS5s to crash like no other. I was mostly fine after uninstalling Miles Morales, too.

That worries me, as I had issues with MM (ray tracing problem perhaps?)

At work currently, be a while before I get to try it. Still plenty of time for Decks to get in before me.
