Game is too good not to have its own thread. Started the remake this morning and as expected, it's an absolute dream to play. That soundtrack, and excellent quality of life improvements (such as using NieR Automata's traversal etc), my god. Playing it on the PS5 so smoothly 60fps as well, might be the same on PS4 Pro etc but so far, so very very happy ![]() Anyone else in at launch or just me? |

Registered 16 years agoDoesn't unlock for another 8 hours or so on PC... though that doesn't really matter as I'm working.
Crossing my fingers and hoping the PC version is better than Automata's. -

Registered 1 year agoHad it pre-ordered through TGC but they seem to have had some payment issues if you use PayPal so it got cancelled.
Can't seem to make up my mind which version to go for now... Might wait for some feedback on the PC version before I make the jump. -

Registered 16 years agoIve always regretted binning it (or at least Gestalt) so Im really thinking about the possibility of considering to maybe potentially pick it up today.
I didnt really get what it was going for and the game itself was actually quite shit, so the story really couldnt force its way through that. -

Registered 9 years agoHaha the game is definitely improved with the remake Nick, if that helps!
I fully suspect Gestalt will be the superior version story wise, but will of course reserve judgement until the end. -

Registered 15 years agoI'm so excited to play this. Never played the original, I know the broad strokes of the plot but not the details so I'm really excited considering how much I love Automata. -

Registered 16 years agoYes and no. If you dug the story and structure of Automata, then its in the same ball park but Automata is (likely to be) refined and superior in pretty much every department.
They did change the combat to be more like Automata, though, which was one of the biggest complaints about it. -

Registered 16 years agoI bounced off Gestalt twice, I think due to a combination of technical issues (the framerate could drop into the dumpster) and the combat just not clicking with me. Found Automata's combat much easier to get along with, so I'm absolutely up for them bringing Replicant's combat more into line with that. -

Registered 1 year agoThe headline suggests she didn't really care for the game to begin with, so it was probably never going to be a glowing review.
Think someone in the comments said it'd be nice to have a review from someone like them (and me) who loved Automata but never properly played the original. A fresh take seems more valuable than the review we got. -

Seemed quite a good review to me. I'd describe your reaction to any EG review as kneejerk at this point.

Registered 16 years agoI'd say thats an ideal kind of person to review it. Has the game done enough to win me over again? And by the sounds of it, it didnt.
The backtracking, for example, is one of the things that wore me out first time around and that hasnt been changed. -

Registered 16 years ago@monkman76 Nah, they do still have some decent reviewers. Robert Purchese, Martin Robinson and Vikki Blake are all perfectly fine. Malindy is just the person who reviews all the Japanese games who doesn't like Japan or Japanese games. -

From her review. Not seeing it tbh. -

I thinks that a good thing tbh. It's beneficial to have that outside perspective and from the looks of it some of the elements sound tiring such as the backtracking which is a big no no for me, especially if it's virtually the same content.

Registered 15 years agoHeard a few potential issues regarding framerate (assumedly on base consoles). As I only have a standard Ps4 I have not preordered this yet so will wait for reports as not planning a PS5 any time soon.
As for the series I played Gestalt first but didn't finish it but played it properly after finishing Automata and slightly preferred the world setting in the sequel. I will get this at some point though. -

Registered 18 years agoThe PC version doesn't sound great either, with some controller-related stuttering weirdness. Suspect I'll wait this one out and see how it all boils down given how bad the support was for Automata. -
I'll be getting it in a couple of weeks.
How's the combat? Like on par with Automata?
