Given the backlash to Sony's initial plans to pull support for the PS3 Store, the current 79% download error on Xbox 360 has gone largely unnoticed by the media, while seemingly ignored by Microsoft. I got an Xbox 360 for my son last year and downloaded Portal 2 with no issues. Ever since he got a Series S, he gave the 360 to his 8yo sister. She loves Minecraft so I bought it from the store but it only downloaded to 79% and kept failing. I reset the HHD tried it, along with Portal, again but the issue remained. It appears its a widespread issue: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/xba_gapp/trying-to-download-de-blob-2-on-xbox-360-download/f532c044-7ba0-4ebc-86c7-3ecc6a56bc80 https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/xba_console/80-cant-download-xbox360/3438b694-3c4d-4c3a-b496-c0791beb18dd https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/all/most-xbox-360-games-are-not-downloading-properly/ae0ee2cd-b6d1-48f1-87f6-981c290225c5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlWWhct59kU Does anyone know what's going on with this or is there just media and corporate silence? Maybe MS have commented on the issue and are fixing it, but I couldn't find one. I hope they haven't quietly pulled the plug on the Live Store. Edited by starsail at 10:03:07 27-04-2021 |

Registered 9 years ago@starsail To be fair if this was happening to me, I'd also be annoyed enough to post about it. It must be quite common for older gen consoles to be handed down to kids.
They won't have pulled the plug on the live store because (I assume) they still use a version of it to get digital downloads of the x360 games that are supported through backwards compatibility on the One and Series consoles. But unfortunately Minecraft is a bit of an edge case because current gen users would just get the current gen version, so there's less reason to support the x360 version. Portal should still work though.
Anyway you're unlikely to get much help from MS, although if you escalate it enough you might get a refund on the digital purchase of Minecraft which you effectively can't use. And then maybe just buy a cheap used disk version? -

It's the old debate about digital purchases though isn't it? If he'd bought it on disc he'd be alright. And, he was able to buy it again now. Fair enough there's only so long you can offer updates etc but if you can still buy things you should be able to download them.

Registered 12 years agoBit of a weird reaction from people here. MS is taking people's money then failing to provide the goods that have been purchased. And it does seem to be a fairly wide-spread issue.
It might be worth emailing EG about it, with the attention they've given the PS Store closure recently they might pick it up. And there's a good chance MS will make an effort to fix the issue if the media starts getting on their case about it. -

They only stopped manufacturing that console five years ago though.

Registered 18 years agoYeah, I have some sympathy. It's not a title that was purchased years ago and now trying to download it again and support has stopped. It's on the store and should work. -

Agreed. If something is for sale by that very definition you should be able to use your purchase.

Registered 14 years ago@starsail I haven't had any issue downloading stuff on my 360, but I've heard about this. It doesn't seem to be such a widespread problem though, which would explain why it's not been fixed yet. I have a different issue myself (I'm unable to buy 360 games from the web store, I have to buy them directly from the 360 itself), and again it's never been addressed because not enough people are in the same situation.
Regarding your situation, some say the error won't happen if you have an arcade game running while the other game downloads. You could try that.

Registered 7 years agoFrom a quick search the issue has been on and off for a good few years and not for any specific games. Seems they’re very slow fixing whatever the problem is and it keeps happening. -

Registered 5 years ago@hedben2013 I'm not fussed about a refund as I can download it on a later console again. But I didn't think much of it as I believed the hard drive was on the blink. As it appears more widespread, it seems MS are aware of the issue but aren't commenting on it or fixing it. It's not just Minecraft either, but a multitude of titles. It's very strange. Mind, I'm not sure if it's the store in certain counties or it only affects a limited number of titles, etc. -

Registered 5 years ago@General_Martok as far as I'm aware, and I could be wrong as I've only been gaming for 40 years, but the Mega Drive didn't have an online digital store where you can still buy games but they don't download.
But, yeah, the on switch is absolutely the same thing. -

Registered 5 years ago@Not-a-reviewer isn't that like supporting Sony's decision to switch off the PS Store for PS3, Vita and PSP? I'd rather MS keep the support they have and offer it regardless, especially if it's currently still open and on sale.

Yeah, it's currently on the store. I thought it was the HDD but seeing these widespread comments showing fails at the same percentage means it's definitely a broader issue.

Yeah, that's probably a good start. I'll try it again and search for the latest posts about it. I'll even join an MS chat bot/person with a query and see what the latest it is. If I can't get an answer, I'll drop EG an email.

There's nothing running in the background tho. Maybe it's a numbers thing though. Less of a priority if not everyone has the same issue. -
