Registered 9 years agoThe episode 0 that's already out is certainly interesting if you care about why they left Giant Bomb... Vinny goes into a surprising amount of detail about that. They didn't like having "growth targets" and the other baggage that comes from working in a corporation.
Also nice that Brad was allowed to mention his other podcast, Brad and Will make a tech pod (which I'm quite enjoying since someone recommended it here)- it hadn't even occurred to me that they'd be banned from mentioning that kind of thing while working under CNET/RedVentures/whoever. -

Registered 10 years agoYeah. Vinny once snuck a reference to Brad's other podcast in due to being banned from outright taking about it -

Registered 10 years agoThe future of GB coming a bit clearer...
Notes about GB 2.0 from the Bombcast:
Planning to hire at least one more fulltime "on camera" personality and a few more production staff
Regular staff site will continue to do their regularly operated shows (Bombcast, Quick Looks, Friday stream, etc...)
While remaining a contractor, Danny is taking a more prominent role: Will continue to be on the Bombcast, but also Quick Looks, E3, and more
From there it sounds like GB is turning into a network of sorts, "GB and Friends"
So far they announced new shows from Jeff Grubb, Tamoor and Lucy from GameSpot (with Bakalar), Dan Rykert (with Bakalar)
Plan is to get friends of the site in to do some weird shit going forward
First segment of today's Bombcast covered everything in greater detail

In a bit of an opposite to what Nextlander said it seems Jeff knows the format has gone stale and needed to change things which I'm guessing the others didn't want to be apart of.
But sounds like GB has a strong future ahead and they seem excited about it. -

Registered 13 years agoYeah, but the Nextlander guys can pivot to new types of content fairly easily if it turns out they need to, that's the benefit of such a small team. Glad both they and GB are around personally. -

This, I don’t really see them as competing against each other as opposed to complimenting.

Registered 10 years agoJeff hinted at a collaboration down the line on the see you next game stream.
You can see nextlander are a bit unprepared for it all right now so but it's good to have them back. Doesn't sound like Ben will be coming back to that sort of thing anytime soon is ever and pretty sure Abby is looking to move over to the UK soon and to be honest I think they will be better without her especially if they plan on doing a game of the Year podcast....... -

Registered 18 years agoIs Jeff ok with all this? I kind of feel sorry for him. Giantbomb was created to get away from the corporate stuff and it’s been drawn back into it. I also feel he brought those guys up with him. I know they are their own people but it feels like his kids have flown the roost. I guess he can just draw the paycheque and do his thing until retirement. -

Registered 10 years agoHe said a few weeks ago he wanted them to stay for the ride and it sucks they left but he definitely sounds pumped for what's coming.
Another thing Vinny and Co didn't like was weekly meetings while Jeff feels not planning ahead was causing more issues as things went on.
The big plus for Jeff now is he's still ultimately in charge of the company and is ready for a new era. -
Would I prefer to not need N+1 subscriptions for ad-free podcasts? Sure. But I also am glad that Vinny & Brad (and Alex but he's less "essential" to me
) are back in some form.
