It’s adorable that you thought commercial interests haven’t influenced content of websites, or any other publication, before this. -

Totally agree. Also, I have noticed that we are now living in a world where it seems to be impossible to voice an opinion on polarising subjects, without being called a bigot or racist or get death threats and rape threats. For one, let people who can give a nuanced and balanced view on this crisis give their opinions. I'm here for it. Also, nobody wants the dregs of the internet sending them abuse for either supporting Palestine (aka denying Israel the right to exist) or supporting Israel (aka supporting the subjugation of a race). (This was a tongue in cheek comment to illustrate how hard it is to comment on this without igniting a shit storm of unbelievable proportions. EG is not the site to an opinion on this. In my opinion. There are other things we as individuals could and should do. But I don't expect that from EG)
While I absolutely sympathise with all the innocents on both sides who are suffering, from my admittedly ill-informed position, I can't help thinking that none of this would have started if Israel hadn't invaded Gaza and the West Bank. Having said that, I'm happy to be educated by someone more knowledgable about the situation.
But I have to agree with Rob - EG is a Gaming website. If Delia Smith started weighing in about why Halo only deserved 5/10, I'd think "Stick to what you know." To that end, while EG staffers are absolutely entitled to their opinions, I don't think a videogaming website is the right place to be putting forward formal political opinions.
Just my $0.02 - others will have their own views.

Registered 6 years agoWith social media we have evolved to the point where everybody has a platform. It is funny when celebrities decide to wade in on issues and get called out because it's nothing to do with why they're famous. Actors etc. To be honest I don't mind hearing what people have to say. -

Registered 20 years agoThis is how editorial independence is lost.
By centering whatever issue of the day generates controversy and claiming any actions by management are about wanting to avoid that. The staff were clearly informed that the statement which claimed to represent their views was imposed by management on foot of concerns about commercial interests. When management put out their statement they lacked the courage to assert who they were and why they were doing that and instead sought to portray their commercially motivated statement as representing editorial opinion. If management at IGN truly felt that the topic was not one they should address they should have said so while clearly identifying themselves, instead they stole the voice of their editorial staff to do so. -

Given Eurogamer's love of a pun for their subheadings, I'll be really disappointed if "JewJew Rocket" isn't used for their piece
