I think I'd be in quite a shit place if I didn't play games.

Skill wise I'd be an amazing guitarist rather than an average one.

Slightly different question, but I do wonder what I'd do now if games hadn't grown up with me.

I loved my C64 and Mega Drive back in the day, but if games were all still cartoon mascot platformers (much as I still enjoy a Mario game), I'd probably have drifted away from gaming.

Instead, games developed and matured as I did. Bigger world's, less child orientated content, more narrative driven, almost movie like, storylines. I remember playing Tomb Raider on the Saturn and thinking it was like playing an Indiana Jones movie. The story, the cutscenes, the large world's, even the more complicated controls...it felt like games were now for teens/adults. Without that type of progress, I'd have left games behind.

Like a lot have mentioned, I’d have achieved a lot more in life. Once I had unlimited gaming time, any type of development I may have had got put on hold for 20 years.

    *glances at Sekiro*

I’d have more hair and be less stressed out. Also richer and still using a 12 inch portable tv.

You're all a bit down on gaming, aren't you?

For me, I think gaming has been an overall positive, even if I couldn't swear that every hour I put into World of Warcraft was time well spent. I'm an introvert by nature, but have made more friends and connections through gaming than I would have done through reading, film etc.

Plus I think gaming can have some positive influences. I'm pretty sure I've picked up a lot from gaming that helps me cope with failure and react more calmly in stressful situations.

The general consensus so far does seem to suggest gaming has a negative effect.

I’ve made more friends than bitter enemies through games.
