Sport climbing f#cking rules, then. That was very good viewing.
Glad the keep the lead til last.
I know a lot of people were critical of the combined format as its not how climbing comps typically work but it really (unintentionally*)Olympiced it up.
*the IOC would only give the one medal and they didn’t want to pick one discipline over the others -

Registered 6 years agoPart of me did think its because even the IOC know how stupid the race walk is and must give the participants the same lack of respect everyone else does -

It seems quite cool, but after watching the final earlier I still have no idea how the Spanish guy got gold. The scoring system is mental.

Also, the schizophrenic coverage didn't help, but I dont understand "bouldering" at all. Not a clue what they are trying to achieve or why climbing a couple of metres up is so impressive/ difficult.
Weird-ass hobby. -

Registered 6 years agoBouldering is all about technical difficulty. But in a way where done well it looks so easy its hard to convey that those holds all knack and its really fatiguing on tv.
The system of multiplying your scores from each round together is pretty nuts. There can’t be many events where the best possible score is 3 and the worst is 8000 and there are only twenty competitors

Registered 10 years agoDid a bit of research and apparently the race walking is harder than running because your muscles work harder than your lungs or something. I don’t envy anyone having to do anything remotely athletic in that heat either.
The French guy got himself into all kinds of difficulties and it wasn’t even that far into the race. -

This is a common misconception. There's no wind indoors therefore no advantage.

I think the advantage is not knowing when the person behind will accelerate. -

Registered 15 years agoThey’re moving through the air still, the one behind is doing about 30% less work, or, if they aim to overtake, going faster for the same effort. The catch is that, to go around the outside, they need to ride several more meters than their opponent. -

Registered 11 years agoThat was genuinely one of the most, possibly the most, dominant win I've ever seen at an Olympics in any sport. They won 10 of the 12 sprints and weren't even the pre-race favourites.
Like proper, immediately make them Dames stuff.

So why do the team sprint and team pursuit riders ride inches from each others' wheel instead of leaving some distance for safety?

Or why does the 4th rider drop way back as soon as he/she leaves a small gap? -

Clearly, Sport is right and all the professional cyclists, coaches, biomechanists and engineers involved in creating the tactics, bikes and skin suits are wrong.

You should probably inform these guys (https://catesbytunnel.com/) that their multimillion-pound project is pointless as well given there are no aerodynamic effects indoors.
