Yes slight hitting of wrong button before I'd actually typed the message! I'm sure I've got some shrapnel lodged in my brain at times! ;-)

I'll wait for the EU patch personally. To me it seems likely that it either wont patch your copy at all or you wont be able to get on any EU servers.

I'll give it a go, I doubt it'll break it and it won't take much effort to reinstall if it does. Notice the readme is dated Nov 7th, so they've had in QA a reasonable amount of time.

Update: according to BF1942.de, the patch works fine with EU copies of the game. Reading through the readme, they've made quite a few fixes, however I don't think it's luck that this one Low close combat hit accuracy due to network lag is much improved is mentioned first! ;-)

What like now?! It works fine on my UK bought copy of the game, obviously haven't tried MP as I mentioned before, however just played a quick go on Wake Island and I wanted to test if hitting escape while in an SP game would drop me back to desktop like it did before occasionally and it did. I'm sure it's something to do with the CD protection system. :-(

Anyway, thought I'd then have a go at Tobruk on normal difficulty as Allied, if you've tried it before with bots you'll now just how bad they are on this map, well they aren't anymore. Won with 145 points with only one flag going grey and that was just before the Axis tickets ran out! Quite a difference, they also seemed to actually act reasonably intelligently as well, manning tanks properly, not running around like headless chickens like they did before. I think the new graphics stuff seemed to make it look a bit better but I could be imagining it.

All in all looking forward to playing some humans at the weekend.

Update: whoops forgot one of the best changes, the crosshair changes to indicate if you've hit who you're shooting at, so you're no longer guessing if you did or not. This makes quite a difference, makes my engineer's rifle much more usable as a sniping weapon when I'm not in a tank! :-)

Hmm something is rather weird I think with the server update, I and everyone else by looks of things, can join a non-dedicated server but trying to connect to a 1.2 dedicated server gives a "data differ from server" error. This is happening to US copy owners as well, looks like the 1.2 server is not quite right.

Trying to connect 1.2 client to 1.1 server doesn't work and I'm not surprised about that.

Tried it briefly. Hasn't resolved my lagging graphics issue, and I managed to spot two bots chasing each other in perfect circles in aeroplanes. It's always been something of a pastime of theirs on Midway. Sigh...

Bollocks! EA screwed up and sent a beta version of the patch to 3DGamers. They've replaced it and I'm downloading the proper one now. Hopefully it'll install over the top.

Yeah that's me, taking risks so you don't have to! ;-)

Oh well I'm sure I'll get it going soon... Bloody EA screwing up the only fast, no waiting way for downloading the damn thing, strange that...

Right before I go off to bed, I downloaded the patch several times from 3DGamers and they were still buggered, obviously the fixed version hadn't quite mirrored everywhere. However the one from Fileshack worked fine and I was able to connect to a 1.2 dedicated server and that's were I've left it!

The patch that works for everyone, including EU people by the fact it works for me and others who haven't got US copies, is 22,956,029 bytes in size, the duff one is 22,955,046 bytes.

    Thank the Gods for broadband...

Yep, I'm a bit suss with this one. I'll wait for the European patch because surely all the UK servers will be running 1.1, thus making me connect to the states or whereever.
