Registered 14 years agoSo shall I ring them and do the same as last year:

Right I've pencled us in for a room at 'The Fox' in W.Kensignton. It's not far from the Famous Three Kings and the space is much bigger, couple of pool tables, decent food etc.
They're going to ring me this week and we have until late wednesday, early thursday to confirm either way. That's also the deadline to pre-book and booze as per my earlier post. Also if we can roughly confirm the numbers they should be able to throw in a free buffett as well, they will also have their normal menu for people to order food from.
The girl I spoke to didn't know what was going on in the late bar upstairs on that night so it may or may not be open for us to go up there after the pub closes. But hopefully it won't be a hughe problem as the pub is open until 12 anyway, if the bar upstairs is open it'll be open until about 1am.
But she did seem to think we could have the room until closing, where as the first guy I spoke said it may only be until 9pm and then move to the main part of the pub, I'll get this confirmed asap. I think it'll be karaoke night in the main pub that night, don't know if that's a plus or minus tbh!
afaik the cost for the space is £50 if I ask them to move furniture around to make more space or £30 if they leave it as is. Again I'll get this confirmed. I think they'll be enough room as it is but if a lot are turning up I may get them to ditch one of the pool tables.
So over to you lot now, are people all ok with this or shall we try something else? I'll leave it to a vote as I'm easy either way.
I'm off work next week put will be popping in to EG to keep up with the goss but could someone bump this and keep it running in the week? Like I say if we can get an answer by wednesday pm that would be great.

Registered 14 years agoWell it's by the by anyway, I called them and they only have a room available after 9pm, unless it has already been booked by some other EGer.
New venue required methinks -

Registered 14 years agoOh boo Ta for trying though.
I've no idea where to suggest as an alternative, we seem to end up in the same pubs most of the time and none of them have a room for hire. Anyone else got any ideas? -

Registered 16 years agoThe first time we went to the Hope (after the Nausicaa meet), somebody had booked upstairs, but it may be a bit small. Otherwise I don't really know. Surely some of the chain pubs do functions? Also, if we can't find a nice bookable pub are there other venue alternatives? -

Registered 16 years agoThere's always the Melton Mowbray in Holborn - they hire out downstairs... It might be a bit pricey though. Not sure there's a projector either. -

What's wrong with after 9pm, we can sit in the main pub till then, wasn't exactly jumping last time. If memory serves there were about 15 people in the pub, 6 of them being staff...

Registered 15 years agoHow long is the second room open until? Didn't they boot us out at about 10 last time?
Worth checking as it might not be worth booking it for an hour.

Registered 14 years agoThere are 2 bars there apparently, one is open till 12, the other till 1am. They want £50 for the room. I didn't ask what time we'd have to vacate the room. I've got the feeling it would be better to find a big pub and reserve some tables rather than booking this one -
As Spanky said, the place was pretty deserted last time so it might be cool to just go there and see how full it gets rather than booking it.
I'm sure there'll be enough people flashing their portables around so that we don't miss the projector / telly thing.
