Right, I need a little help.

Just taken delivery of a 1GB Pro Duo for my PSP. and I've downloaded PSPWare to make the integration between the two nice and smooth.

Got iTunes & iPhoto importing into it fine, but need to find a suitable bit of software to get my DVD library into the right format for PSPWare to accept.

Anyone offer me any help/advice? Ideally I'd like something that ain't going to cost me, but I don't mind shelling out a few quid if it's easy to use.

I'm a bit of novice when it comes to dealing with all these movie formats, so be gentle with me!

Try the PSP Video 9 forum, they may have some pointers for you.

The advice there seems to be "Use MacTheRipper to rip the DVD. Then use ffmpeg to convert it to any format you want. When ripping in MTR use Main Feature Mode.".

But PSPWare says it does this:

Take a movie, add it to PSPWare's movies section and PSPWare will automatically convert and optimize it for your PSP's screen. You can swap movies with a single click, making it super practical!

PSPWare supports every common movie format* (MOV, MPG, AVI, WMV, VOB, DV and QuickTime plugins) and you can easily prepare your DVD library for watching on your PSP's gorgeous 16:9 wide aspect ratio screen!

And you can rip DVDs to your Mac using Mac the Ripper which is free.

PSPWare only optimises the content for the screen once they're in the right format.

However, I will take a look at "Mac the Ripper" (great name) in terms of getting the DVD's into the right format.

    Cheers for the help guys.

I've been looking at that as well and it looks good - how are you finding it?

"Mac the Ripper" looks to me - from the description on Versiontracker anyway - to be just a way of removing the region coding from DVD's . . . . . . not that that isn't useful of course.

I think that's all it does, basically they suggest ripping the dvd without menu's using a ripper (MacTheRipper?) and then use ffmpegX to convert it to the psp video format.

Ah ha - I think I'm starting to get my head round this now.

Has to be said though, it's not exactly straightforward is it?

You'll get the hang of it and believe me it can get massively more complicated when you start farting around with codecs and bit-rates and subtitles etc!
