my mate's just got an ipod and very excited about it he is too. However he's absolutely terrified about losing his Ipod and all his songs. Not knowing how they work but I assume his Itunes would have a back up saved on his lap top, but as an extra precaution he seemed very keen on removable drives when I mentioned them to him to save a backup on. Is this a good idea? And do any of you use a good removable drives? It wouldn't need to be massive, maybe 40 or 60gigs as he only has a 20gig ipod. If it's a good idea (which I'm not sure if it is?) he'd probably not want to spend more than £50 or £60 and ideally it would be quite small. Any ideas from any of you mac loving ipodders would be appreciated. |

Registered 17 years agoIt depends on what system they've got.
It's not much trouble if they've got a tower, they can just buy an internal drive. They're generally cheaper.
But externals are popular too, because you can take them anywhere or for real backups you just put them in a drawer. Our nextdoor neighbour is a photographer and he gives us his harddrive when he goes on hols.
Cancom are quite a good reseller. It's quite hard to find drives smaller than 80GB now. But I did a little digging.
My dad uses a shareware app called Synchronize but the Backup util is good too. All automatic. -

Registered 19 years agothanks Tombo,
he's got a lappy so it needs to be removable, and portable.
I'll have a look at that site.

deem, that sounds a good deal.
I'll ask him, although I think he wanted something a bit bigger, even though his ipod is only 20gb
edit, just realised you said 40gb, although you'd linked to the 20gb model.
he may definitely be interested in that.
