Registered 18 years agoSure, could be good. Not a lot wrong with what I'm seeing. -
Hmm. We'll see how it plays. A lot of those shots don't look too hot really, but that's probably due to the size of the scan -

Start with heart, go for the head if that doesn't work.
These shots looks mighty. -

At least you could shoot Elvis in his oversized annoying head.
Failed the mission but it was sometimes worth it!

No.
You're not immediately taking a negative view becasue it's "what you do", while also secretly hoping for it to be *actually* bad so you can post in 3 months time saying "I always thought it looked shit. Anyone for Battlefield 2?" -
\o/
Just checkin'
I loved Goldeneye, quite liked Perfect Dark (for all its faults, like the voice acting), but Rare haven't exactly been on top form for the last few years.
The buggers. -

Registered 20 years agoLooks good, but again I wanna see footage of it running at a nice framerate etc...if looks like that and runs like a dog it's not gonna be much fun.
Also I didn't really notice any concerns from the writers of the article (which could be a good thing of course) other than under one of screen shots which mentioned a "thick motion blur when dark makes sudden movements" It does go on to say that they think it's a style thing rather than a framerate issue, and that they hope there will be an option for it's removal.
Fingers crossed from my end, a good review nearer launch may sway me into adopting early

Registered 18 years agoThat looks... amazing. Jesus, and to think I'm gunna have to wait at least about 6 months before I can even get an XBox360. -
The only issue I have with what I've seen is that the gadgets and weapons and jetpacks and all that lark serves to make it seem more futuristic than the first; isn't it meant to be a prequel? -

Registered 18 years agoFair point! Yeah, prequel. It was always pretty futuristic, but have to wait and see I guess. -
Don't party just yet. They have a big old testing room and word is it's extremely unfinished, and getting cut out left right and centre to make release.
can't confirm if this is true - but my old friend and source of all things rareware said they're greying out certain gameplay types/options which will then be put in via xbox live update 5/6 months post release.
Either way, so long as its an average shooter with next gen graphics i'm sure it'll get lapped up on release date, xbox live alone is enough to make an otherwise average game so much more fun (take PGR2 for instance).
Free Radical Design have a 360 project in the works at the moment which i'm more interested in, but again - come release day some of us are going to be shafted into buying a few average games by the look of it, else just sit around looking at the blades on the dashboard for a few months.

Registered 19 years agoi think you should chillax pirotic. its not launch yet and great strides can be made in the next few weeks.
but to ground everyone who gets ahead of themselves, remember wallguy-era shots? compare them to the edge scans.
HUGE difference. until I know better, i continue to keep an open mind about zero. even if it is a gfx update on PD, that will not be a bad thing. hugely configurable multi-player is always welcome. -
Looks great, but screens are not worth much these days: we saw earlier this week a gameplay movie of that Capcom zombie title* that looked utter tat, as opposed to the wonderful screens released a few weeks ago.
*) can't remember its name -
That looks absolutely........... fantastic.
-
I just think they have a huge amount of expectation placed on them because of GoldenEye and Perfect Dark, and most of the PDZ development team did not have a part in making the two aformentioned classics - it's more the bastard love-child of the DKR team and new staffers who dont have a game under their belt yet.
It looks pretty good, certainly not amazing (you have to stretch your imagination a little to call these true next gen graphics) but it's come a long way from the really poor first showing it had, if only they had a few more months to make a similar leap again it could be a classic, but with release not that far off and feature lock-down being called i think what we see now is pretty much what we'll get.
I'm quite looking foward to this and Kameo, my main worry is seeing all the xbox haters jumping on it when it 'only gets' 7 or 8 out of ten. which would still be enough to sell me a copy and would still make it a good game in its own right, but alas - the fanboys would rare it, rare and microsoft apart.
Either way, look foward to shooting some of you guys in the nuts come november the 2nd, who'll be with me

Wait until you get Edge and see them upclose. Dodgy character models who look like klingons and lead characters not even mothers could love. Hopefully you can pick your avatar in multiplayer which could render this argument useless

Thank you. My comment was to say that, scenery seems to have been lavishly attended to, but DAMN! the character models are awful! My biggest problems with all PD0 media up until now is that it has been very inconsistent. The environments and characters usually look mismatched. I've been looking at piss poor preview screenshots fpr years, and usually you can get a good feel for the amount of polish a game has been allowed.

This looks very very rushed to me.

If I dare offer up an opinion here (I know, the fucking cheek of the man!) : Free Radical have got one weapon in their arsenal : character/art design.
Since the "heddy days" of ps2 launch title FPS "revelation" Timesplitters, I would say their output has been a dreadful rehash or what was already a pretty average game (and that ok-ish mentalist game, which sunk like a torpedoed hospital ship on release).
Whats so special about Free Radical? -
BTW: was it just me who absolutely hated the character design in Timesplitters?
I thought the characters looked absolutely fucking hideous. -

Those vegetated areas look distinctly current-gen. Some of the city-based stuff looks interesting but it's not exactly gobsmacking, is it?
The vegetation looked awful, I agree, but the character models, explosions and cityscapes looked fantastic to me! -

nah I agree Retroid: the character design in TimeSplitters made me vomit all over myself.
But, you see, the Timesplitters games have had Monkeys.
MONKEYS.
= units shifted.
It's at least recogniseable. -
I'm not into the whole Monkey/Ninja videogame fetishes (fetishi?).
Can't find myself getting too excited about PDZ... Microsoft would be giving it more hype if Microsoft had more confidence in it. And I don't consider it "rushed" as we all know Rare never rushes itself. PDZ is more "leisured" than "rushed".
