It's a film from last year, but I've only seen it yesterday. Has anyone else seen it? I have to admit that, although it's quite stupid at times, I enjoyed it. It has trademark Luc Besson over the top super-hero characters and non-stop, brilliantly staged action. The plot is childishly moralistic and there are quite a few holes in it, but that's hardly a problem, as there's very little of it, so it doesn't get in the way. The main characters are played by a stuntman, an athlete of sorts (the inventor of parkour, if you heard of it) and a porn actress (I'm not very sure about that, but I have to say, it's terribly easy to find nude pictures of her), but that, surprisingly, is not a problem either. They pull of their roles well and, more importantly, they do all the stunts themselves. David Belle, especially, is incredible. The way he moves is so fluid and beautiful it's almost unreal. The scenes where he is being chased over rooftops are absolutely spectacular. So... erm ... the plot? In the future, the dangerous neighbourhoods of Paris are surrounded by walls and left to be as lawless and mad as they can. Cue local Robin Hood Leito and honest cop Damien meeting in a moment that will decide the future of the entire city, bla bla. [link=http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0414852/">IMDB link and |

Registered 18 years agoShe is great, isn't she? Too bad I can't find an english language site for her, or a non-dodgy site for that matter. By the way, her character reminds me of Nikita, she's a tough woman that doesn't care that she is three times smaller than someone if she wants to kick his arse. -

Registered 18 years agoIt's not directed by him, he only co-wrote the script. The direction is good though.
I can't stress enough how impressive some sections are. Over the top but almost believable stunts, with no wire-work, excessive cutting or CGI, just some good athletes doing what they know best. If there ever was a man who deserves to be stamped with the clichee "he moves like a panther", Dabid Belle is it. -

Registered 18 years agoAs a director, he only did two movies since Leon, The Fifth Element and Joan of Arc. He was involved in a lot of other films, though, and, while none of them is 'good', quite a few are enjoyable. I liked The Fifth Element and the Taxi films. -
There's some great fakes on that link
I only wish that my local video shop would have French films available for rental, it's so damn hard to get hold of them round here...I'm still happy I got Diner de Cons on DVD while I was in Paris though. -

Registered 18 years agoIt's ok. I know they're not good in the normal sense.
By the way, I did further searches and Dany Verissimo a.k.a. Ally Mac Tanya is definitely a porn star. A good one, apperently.
