Romero's Dawn of the Dead is on BBC 1 now! YAY!!! And Dawn of the Dead 2004 just finished on Sky movies in time for me to turn over and watch the original. :)

Not me. Heard it's good for fans of the genre, but not great for everyone.

I watched it last night - Land of the Dead - really enjoyed it too. I thought it was going to be more of the same really, and it sort of was but there was more to it and without giving anything away it was a lot of fun.

I really enjoyed Land of the Dead. I'm sure Neodog and my other mates would say the same.

Land of the Dead = mega-meh. Not scary, OTT gory (and not even in a funny way), so-so effects, crap acting and a lame storyline. The new dawn of the Dead was way better, IMO.

I love the original. The zombies are so slow you just wouldn't be that scared of them. The little girl at the beginning of the remake, when you realise they can run fast - that's scary!!

Me too - also, the whole "they're getting smarter"-thing in LotD is just lame. Gotta love a few of the SFX in DotD - the car crash in the beginning, and the exploding gas-canister later on.

Doesn't that "getting smarter" run from I Am Legend/Omega Man?

Dunno. I am Legend is about vampires, innit?

Yeah but they ain't exactly the brightest bunch, relying on primal instinct. It's not until later that a new society is formed from more advanced creatures.

Yeah - I remember that part. In I Am Legend it was a sort of Darwinian thing, and seemed plausible enough - in LotD it just seems... unrealistic (!).

I assume you're talking DotD 2004 there. I like the idea of George Romero using lots of putrid pigs guts in the original.

You really should! Especially as it is what inspired this thread! Of course you should watch the european version with Dario Argento's influence - got to love the music by Goblin.

Maybe I'll give a couple of my film-collecting mates a call tomorrow - they're bound to have it.

While you're at it, see if they have any Dario Argentos. Most of his films are well worth a watch.

I Am Legend is a fantastic book... the revelation of the meaning of the title is amazing.

The good news is, there's a film in production.

The bad news is.... oh bugger. It's like name-dropping all the people who should never be allowed to touch the project with a bargepole...

Is the Goblin music the daft song at the end? The one that stays in your head for hours?

Dario Argento... Is he the guy who made "Hell Of The Living Dead"? Regardless, that's one of the worst films I've ever seen, zombie or otherwise. Some people are in the jungle, then they meet cannibals, then some zombies appear, then the zombies and cannibals fight, then the people are back in a city and the zombies are there too!

Mix into that about 30 minutes of animal stock footage which doesn't even LOOK like the same film (cos it's stock footage - duh!) and you've got a huge clusterfuck of a movie.

I never EVER want to see that again!

Cool... sounds like just the sort of film I'd want to see after a night at the pub!

Please.. just.. what the fuck ... just read up on Dario Argento before you say another word. Do it.

I was so pissed off about this last night. I saw this starting....but the 'pass out' effects of a bottle of wine were kicking in and no matter how much I fought...how much I struggled.....desperate to stay concious to watch the film....it was all to no avail. Passed out good and proper... :0(

The Goblin music is the slow 12/8 march type thing that plays as they first pull into the mall. Also it's the one that has an acoustic guitar part in it very much like Sky, that's in 7/8, when they're rounding up the trucks. Plus the song with all the dramatic 'stabs' when they're driving the car inside the mall, after the guy's been bitten. There's a couple more...and it mostly sounds like keyboard driven 70's prog with a bit of fusion thrown in.

I think the daft song at the end is on a separate CD to the one I've got, which is mostly Goblin's music. Must check that out at some stage. It's only £10.99 in HMV.

The slow one I mentioned actually gives me chills. It sums up the apocalyptic nature of the film perfectly. Something about those Floydy 70's keyboard sounds that's so bloody cold and alien.
