If you are interested in this game then you have to download the movie thats going around from here. Looks absolutely fantastic and it looks even better in motion. The video is actually from an X360 too. Lots of stuff I hadn't seen or heard before such as traps in dungeons and pets! Genuine LOL moment with a pet in the video too. Its 20mins long and is some DVD that was sent to Gamestop employees but ripped and uploaded to the intarweb. Edited by sheepsteak at 17:07:47 02-10-2005 |

Well the 120MB rip is certainly more convenient than the 1.3GB torrent but, to be honest, I think I'll just wait for the game to be released. Also, from what I gather, there's a lot that's out of date* in that vid (being the E3 presentation).
*ie ropey animation, lack of shadows

Registered 18 years agoIts a cool enough vid - but there are some issues that need to (and probabky have been) ironed out: dodgy animations, weak particle effects and stuff like that. Still, the forrests look abso-fucking-lutely amazing. I can honestly see myself spending DAYS just wandering around the randomly-generated countryside, killing deer and eating fungus.

Ahhh I just assumed it was the X360 version because he talked about moving the analogue sticks for combat. -

Registered 18 years agoWell they will look pratically identical like Errol said so thats cool. The devs actually said the Xbox 360 version will have every bell & whistle in the graphics department which gives it the edge. PC only beats it in resolution plus the sweet mods which will come out. -

Indeed, if you look at the way the cursor moves its clearly a PC (the instant start/stop rather than speeding up and slowing down which you get from analogue cursors) but when he mentioned using the sticks for combat i was a bit puzzled.
graphics are very nice, but the animation, combat and characters all looked a bit pish

I don't think it's exactly the same as the E3 demo, I had heard an E3 audio-only demo at RPGDot and this build's audio seems different, Jeremy Soule's(?) cool reworking of the main Morrowind theme wasn't there before. I'm still willing to bet that the build is old, though.
So why didnt they release this after E3?

Registered 18 years agohmm, character animations look pretty good to me, mostly.
I can't wait to get started on this game.
Still slightly fear it may be rushed to the finish, though. -
I'd have to agree that it does look like more of a PC game, too much cursor action going on for it to be ideal on a console.
However, seeing as the combat is much more interactive, i suspect the joypad might have its own beneifts.
either way, a xbox360 in the bedroom, a HDTV projector, a can of cold coke, your buddys on xbox live to chat to and your custom sound track playing - all while in bed!
beat that! -

afaik the countryside is only randomly-generated once in development, everyone's copy should appear the same. The Realm of Oblivion, however, will be random each time you enter.

Hold on, how does that work exactly? Do you mean oblivion as in the game's version of hell? -

So going to oblivion in Oblivion is sort of like going to hell in Diablo 2?

Actually, in all seriousness I did have Morrowind on the PC but had so many technical problems I never really enjoyed it much. I eventually bought it on the Xbox and I DID really enjoy that version. If it's like Morrowind than it is very much suited for play on a console. -

Looks like I was mistaken about the shadows (it's possible even the E3 presentation had them in). I'm also absolutely certain now that Jeremy Soule is returning to compose the score. Yeah, so the animation might be a little ropey but it really doesn't bother me.
I hope this is a launch title for the X360 because I'm fairly sure my PC won't be handling THAT.
(The soft-shadowing seems to disappear further into the demo :/ )

From what I've heard, the engine and nearly all of the world has been completed, most of the remaining work is optimization, quest construction and voice work.
December is highly likely for a release and due to the fact they are using tools that are similar/same as the Morrowind toolset, extra content is very easy in implement.
