I've decided that I'd like to get a 360 this Christmas and there's only one question I have about it and was wondering if any of you knew the answer: Can I access Xbox Live with an ethernet cable going from the console to the modem? Y'see, I can't get a wireless adapter because my PC doesn't have a wireless card, and it would be too expensive anyway, my mum is already thinking that a premium package and 2 games will be too expensive. For the same reason, I also can't get a wireless router, too expensive.

Wireless is bloody expensive for the 360 as you'd have to buy the wireless adaptor for the console (something like £40-60 I can't really remember) plus router/access point if you don't already have one.

I used to use my Xbox directly connected to an NTL modem without problem.

Ah, good, that bodes well then. Now all I have to do is persuade my mum to let me get the premium pack, PDZ and Oblivion............

Why on earth would anyone prefer wireless above CAT5? I understand that in some cases it could be handy to switch to wireless (no carpet to hide the cable ie). But in general, i fail to see a reason to switch to wireless for stationary devices. Transporting data over a 100/1000mbit network is so much faster than the standard 54 g networks.

I dont know if its a fact or not, but somehow games feel like they are reacting slower when your on a wireless network (almost as if the responce time has increased). I mean, technically it shouldnt, but it just feels like it (perhaps wireless routers suffer more from BC storms or something (?))

Of all the devices hooked up in me home network (3 pc's, 2 labtop's, 1 dvd network player, 1 webradio, 1 xbox, 1 gamecube) only the mobile labtops seem to have use for the wireless network.

Ppl say its ugly to have the wires visible, but with care you can hide them out of sight. And its not like your moving your PC every day, right? No? ;p

Plus if you have any of the following: -

    a) a wife
    b) more than 1 PC

Cronk, no, im a student. ^_^

Ssuellid, me laptops are wireless for quick acces, but when it comes to the real work, they go onto the RJ45 connector. And the more than one PC, well, thats where routers are for eh?
