How much of the new film will be used on origin... I hope they keep it to a minimum.

None, or at least very little. It's the real Superman 3. It's called Superman Returns and is set after Superman 2, and he has been away from Earth for 6 years, and is now returning. He come back to discover a world that has learnt to cope without him, and also Lois Lane has moved on..OR HAS SHE??

    She probably hasn't.

He's meant to be young in this one isn't he? How many twenty somethings do you know who can pass for normal with muscles the size of a superheroes, that's right... none! All the women would be chasing him around if he was built as large as the comics, no matter whether he had glasses or not. I think they've done fine, just enough muscle to be disguised under lose clothes.

Anyhoo the face is more important than the muscles imo.

I know of plenty of people that have more muscle than this guy but it's hardly noticable under loose clothing. And I half agree about the face comment but I don't think he has that either - he looks too much like a model. He manages a decent nerd but it's not Clark and I don't think he's Superman at all.

I thought the same about Bale in Batman Begins - great Bruce Wayne but shitty Batman because his jaw isn't gruff or wide enough. The studion obviously thought the same as they made the cowl really wide in the jaw but it looks daft.

I think I'll like Superman Returns but I really disagree with the look and no amount of good acting will change that.

That's true and I agree completely - he just *is* Superman. He had a good costume too, that doesn't make him look skinny with a long torsoe and dumpy legs.

I just think they've really cocked up the look in SR.

You wouldn't kick him out of bed for farting though, no?

I wouldn't say no to "not being ripped" if that's what not being ripped is :)

I just mean tarty women :D

I wouldn't say Reeve was rippling but he was certainly statuesque. Not some curved shoulders midget like us normals :D

What woman wouldn't want a man built like a superhero? I know the looks superficial but it's not like he was a thicko either, like us poor normals.

That's a good desription, and the new guy isn't that. Reeve looked powerfull and imposing as Supes, and he had a good physique too. The new guy is too skinny and the suit really doesn't help him.

I'll try and leave it now :)

    What's a 'tarty women'? :p

Although I want to see this film, I have a huge problem with Kate Bosworth and any film she's in. I'm sure she's a good actress, but I've got to get past my dislike for her to manage to watch it.

Kate Bosworth seems too 'soft' to play Lois.

You're the cop. You'd think you would be in enough contact with people to know the women that like beefy men.

Only women I ever meet are old ladies for a cup of coffee and biscuits. Other than that I work mainly with Teenagers, and I can't remember the last time I needed to arrest a woman . . .

    So no. :D

That's not attractive. That's quasi cardassion.

I wouldn't be in bed with anyone /just/ because of the way they look either, I'm not a bloke.

Outrageous! Bloody sexism. Blokes don't just got to bed with women on the basis of looks you know!

They have to be gullible / drunk enough to say "yes" too.

Hey Kalel, check it out! Cage names his son after you!
  • Deleted user 4 October 2005 10:02:53
    :D Oh dear…

Well, I’d like to think that he has done the research and found out all about what the word means both in Kryptonian and the actual Hebrew words that were originally used to make up the Kryptonian language by Superman’s creators. I’d like to think that he understands the significance and importance of giving his son such a name, but alas, I suspect he did it because he thought it would be cool. Unless he was just naming him after me like you say, in which case that is understandable.

Honestly? Not bothered about muscles on a man at all. There are more contributing factors to making a man attractive than muscles, plus I've always like skinny men. Serious muscles can look yuck, especially verging on Arnie Schwarzenegger territory!

Anyway, people might as well accept that you'd be hard-pushed to find an actor who can match Christopher Reeve as Superman, so might as well accept that this new actor isn't a bad choice. I'd heard of worse choices than that. (Dean Cain anyone?) IIRC Nicholas Cage was rumoured to play him as well.

Aye and that flared nostrilled twat in that bag of fucking crap Smallville.

Well, Siegal and Shuster were both Jews, and used bits and bobs of Hebrew words to make up Kryptonian words, for example, El is the Hebrew word for God, and kalel or Kal-El is actually a bit of a bastardised way of saying 'Messiah', although I think it literally means 'goodness of God' or something like that.

That's it really officially I believe, although there have been books written on the relationship between Supes and Judaism. During the Superman Vs the Nazis years there was a lot of symbolism, and over the years there have been various references to it, it’s a bit of an in joke now. There’s even a reference to it in Superman 2. If you listen very carefully when he dives into Niagara Falls you can distinctly hear the voice of an old New York lady go: “He’s Jewish you know!” :)
