Anyone had any experience with those Samsung The Frame things? Looking at the 55” V2.0 set. Trying to avoid the monolithic slab on the wall of a normal set, but fed up with ~40” screens.

I have wondered the same, as my wife really hates TVs that dominate the room. Always assumed the picture wasn't as good as similarly priced sets though.

Yeah they’re not meant to be top notch. You’re basically paying a grand plus for something that looks as good as something half that price. It’s galling, but that breakout box and flush mounting and theoretically not having the dominating rectangle of doom.... I dunno. Might be worth it. Maybe.

Can anyone point me in the direction of 4k TVs that are on the smaller side? I'm basically looking to get the smallest one I can find (for a bedroom)... ideally 36", but I guess 40" wouldn't be the end of the world if it had a particularly small bezel.

I'm no AVForums guy but I'm sure the general advice is that, for that size, you're better off getting a good 1080p set

I'd normally agree, but in this case I'll be using 4k sources and being basically right on top of it (hence not wanting a monster set).

Why thank you (I had already searched).

They do seem mostly shit I was looking at the RU7100, but it does seem fairly average.

I also shortlisted the Panasonic TX40GX800B but I've not had a chance to read any reviews yet.

    @Psychotext

Could you potentially get away with using a 4k monitor instead?

Possibly, as long as it had HDMI inputs. I'd have thought the bigger ones of those would be properly expensive though.

In case anyone is in the market, the 55" LG OLED B8 can be had from Richer Sounds for £969 with a 6 year guarantee

They also do interest free credit so it's essentially free as the monthly cost is minimal ;)

Fucking hell that's a good price.

If anyone is on the fence for an OLED you may not see a price like this again for a long long time.

And, I believe, if you spend an extra 32 quid, it's interest free for 18 months.

When I bought my Panny, I'm pretty sure it's a shopping basket over a grand, rather than the specific TV that qualifies

Quite tricky to spend 32 quid in there though, you might end up with a 2 inch gold plated hdmi cable.

Sounds like Curry's. "Of course, you're gonna need some decent cables to go with that..."

Some noise-cancelling headphones so you can't hear your wife's angry screams?

Yeah this is a good deal for sure. Is it the 2017 model? The price has been gradually going down for a while, they must be running out of stock. So tempted but I bought 2 mid range Samsung’s 3 years ago and there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. My partner refuses to allow a 40inch in the bedroom unfortunately so I can’t even replace the main TV with this and put that in my man cave and put the 40” gaming TV in the bedroom. Might get her drunk tonight and try again.

I’ve had my LG65B8 for 5 months now and it still makes me smile when I see the PQ. Makes my wallet ache but still - no pockets in a shroud!

@greg_wha Actually the 8 series is the 2018 model, so even better.

I would really strongly encourage anyone on the fence to jump in at that price

I'm after a 55" OLED to replace a Panasonic Plasma being a bit temperamental

Pretty sure I'll go with LG C8 but am also tempted with a Phillips 55OLED803.
It reviews well and the ambilight appeals, any one any have anything bad or good to say about Phillips?
Will be connecting Sky Q (non 4k) and Xbox One S so interesting in best upscaling.

Also after a decent 32" one for wall mount on kitchen, I'd probably be relying on the OS on that instead of ROKU, Sky, Amazon fire etc. Any tips on best small 32" for sound, pic and OS?

Philips TVs run on Android AFAIK, which wasn't so stable last time I checked (about 2 or 3 years ago).

Some OLEDs also have a fan, which would annoy me to no end. Also, some manufacturers cut costs by not having all inputs be 4K HDR capable.

With LG, none of those caveats apply. When in doubt, go with the C8.
