    Are there any owners of a Sony Bravia KD65XG8096BU? Curry's were selling for £949 but got them to price match with totaldigital for 809 which seemed a bargain considering the TV was well over a grand a few months back. Our old Panasonic was on the brink so I was a bit impulsive to be honest.

    Are the black levels decent? I'm not expecting miracles just a solid set.

    Cheers

    I know it's not the kiss of death for every TV, but I have just had to chuck a perfectly fine Sony TV because the android TV OS shat itself and got caught in a reboot loop.

    Apparently, the only cure for a corrupt OS is a new, expensive, main board, so that's something I would bear in mind.

    Obviously, YMMV, but I wouldn't buy another Sony TV with that on it.

    Yikes, no way to install the OS via USB or anything?

    Anyway, the 55" LG B9 is down to £1300

    My last Sony tv died when it was still under warranty for John Lewis, it wasnt overly old but past the 1 year standard warranty. The repair company couldnt get the part and wrote it off so John Lewis gave me the choice of going in to pick an equivalent or most of the money I paid back. Point of the story is the John Lewis guarantee is well worth it if you are spending a grand or more on a tv.

    @Frogofdoom

    Also, Richer Sounds - their 6yr guarantee was welcome when I went for an LG65b8 OLED

    Yeah, it was bullshit. The thing was in perfect nick, but it just crapped itself one day after a power cut and just outside warranty.

    As has been said, I went with richer sounds this time because the warranty will last longer than the actual technology is valid for.

    @nickthegun

    Did you have the TV a while before the OS failed? I've heard Android TVs can be a bit slow and clunky.

    I would have waited until Black Friday to hopefully land a bargain on an OLED but hand was forced and couldn't justify paying over a grand.

    Yeah, it was just over three years old when it died.

    3 years doesn't seem like a particularly 'old' telly. Have you written to Rodger Sony

    I did ring them to see what they could do and I did get the impression that it's a pretty common fault but it was out of warranty so they couldn't have given less of a shit. And I'm not the kind of girl to demand to see the manager and start shouting sales of goods act.

    I love my Sony xe90 dearly, but the Android OS is pony. I don't think it's actually the OS though so much as the processor / mainboard, it's just hilariously underpowered.

    @neems I've got a X900f and the OS is shockingly slow. I've a Nvidia Shield which has the same OS and it's really nippy so it looks like as you say Sony scrimped on the Processor. The TV itself is lovely.

    LG B9 coming on Saturday. Was looking at getting a C8 but with the price reduction on the B9 there wasn't much difference in the end. Add in 2.1 HDMI and it was an easy decision.

    Stocked up on 4K Blu rays and told the wife I'm not leaving the house for a few days.

    @Switch024

    Nice. Hope you like it. Still impressed with my B8 65" - films are great - HDR games too. Sea of Thieves looks particularly great.

    @barchetta Thanks. I bought a Panasonic in 2015 that received a HDR update but the local dimming is terrible so it never really looked right. I'm expecting the OLED to blow it away.

    Has anyone purchased the lg c9 55 inch? Itís down to Ä1700 and I can see it dropping another 100 or so over the Black Friday period. All the reviews are top notch but Iíve yet to hear anything from people who have used it on a daily basis. Am coming from a Samsung ks9000. Have to say in hindsight I havenít been overly impressed by it. The HDR wasnít as mind blowing as I anticipated as I had a serious amount of light banding on it which 2 replacement screens couldnít resolve.

    Yes, I bought a C9 55" at the beginning of the year and use it daily.

    It's a terrific thing and you'll be blown away compared to non-OLED and other OLED sets costing more than that.

    I have a B8 (might be a B7 actually) and the difference between them is staggering

    Do the 8s or 9s have an auto off setting? It's my only reservation,my kids are forever leaving the telly on and I'm worried about burn in with OLEDs

    I would assume, if they are anything like my Panasonic, they are quite fastidious about it.

    On an app, it will time out to a screensaver in seconds of there's no input. The thing you have to watch is them pausing sky, wandering off to the toilet and never coming back, because then it's just a static image of teen titans Go until the power saver mode kicks in.

    They also do some kind on maintenance/regen thing in the middle of the night to mitigate against it. It's simultaneously impressive and terrifying that they are that worried about it.

    What's better, the B9 or the C9? What do the letters and numbers represent?

    I've been very happy with my W8 (which was better than Rodpads W7), but I'm starting to really get an itch for 4k HDR.

    C9. Panels are the same I think but CPU etc are different. I can't do an A/B direct comparison because of ages but the image processing of my 2 year old B set vs the C9 is significantly better at motion and the menus are super snappy

    Ta very muchly. Assumed that would be the case but as you say nick, a little worrying that they are doing that.
  • Deleted user 20 October 2019 09:30:50
    Ah thanks.

    Are there any other contenders for gaming TVs, or is the C9 the one to beat right now?

    Any Sonys or Sammys?
