@Technoishmatt This just might be the reason to finally jump ship to OLED.

It's a conspiracy. I actually made the decision and picked up the phone to RS to order the C9, on interest free. Only to discover that because of where I live, everything has to be done via the nearest store (Southampton) and interest free credit is only available in store only and not over the phone. Getting into the store is a massive pain in the arse.

Mine might, since it’s last years model. Then you get to top it up with a few toys until the price hits a grand and the 0% kicks in.

    Everyone’s a winner!

I am in Southampton the weekend before Black Friday, so that might work if they start their sale early.... really could do with upgrading my centre and side speakers

You don't want your new telly to be ashamed of your sound system.

Also: if you have iPlayer on your fancy new TV, BBC have started dipping their toes into 4k content. That new David Attenborough thing on Sundays has a UHD option which will blow your tits off. It looks absolutely spectacular.

Yeah, the speakers are weak sauce compared to what the receiver can do.

    @nickthegun

Yeah, I’d mentioned it a little earlier in the thread after the opening episode (Antarctica) but this week’s, Asia, looks amazing - we watched ‘His Dark Materials’ first, in the normal iPlayer HD - full of compression and on my 65” B8 which highlights some of the banding that ensues it looked ok... but then dropping into the new Attenborough HLG format stream is breathtaking.

I’d expect it to be in demo displays up & down the country as it would sell OLED/QLED TVs by itself.....

I checked that too. It's disappointing because it's a co-production and you just know it's 4k in America.

Anybody else had a projector screen installed? I have been quoted 3000 quid ex vat just for the screen... fuck that.

    In ceiling, motorized, acoustically transparent.

Anywhere good to check reviews etc on the flood of screens that are likely to hit for good prices this month?

Probably depends on where youre pegging it but the usual suspects like what hi-fi are pretty good.

Then there are also a load of specialist channels on youtube who go balls deep, like this guy who, basically, sold me on mine:

What hifi and Trusted Reviews are somewhat plebby but very reliable sources.

AVForums is the go to for crowd sourced info. There is usually a Black Friday thread there.

I like Rtings for telly reviews. Very useful to compare the features of various models.

I guess looking at the high end of normal panels. Nothing OLED though, would be excessive given I probably get 3 hours use out of the TV a week on average.

Edit - Used to read HDTVTest a lot when I actually kept track of this sort of thing. :)

Sony AG8 OLEDs have just had £500 knocked off their 55" and £600 knocked off their 65" 2019 models, before Black Friday.

John Lewis link below but Currys are same price.
£1299 (55") and £1999 (65"). They're the funky ones with the speakers built into the screen, so the sound emits from the screen where it would be coming from (the demo shows a bird flying across the screen and it's tweet noise moves across the screen with it).

2 years ago these would've been nearer £2500 and £3000.

Good for news about what Black Friday deals are on, but I simply don't trust What HiFi reviews in the slightest.

    AVForums all the way though.

I didn't realise that, I'll have a look tonight. Cheers.

@gamingdave rtings.com if you want very in-depth reviews. They buy their own review sets, not cherry picked by manufacturers.

Decided to not install an electric ceiling projector (yet). This portable one should work nicely for now and let me figure out if I really need a quick access one.

Good news, everyone! Just got an email from richersounds that said they will refund the difference of anything you buy from now that gets discounted on black Friday.

@Technoishmatt projector wall paint no good? I just beamed onto a plain light grey wall and was chuffed with the results.

@mrpon I dont have 100inches of wall space, if I did I would be getting a bigger tv. Classic edwardian living room setup with a fireplace.

Plan was for a screen to come down from ceiling in front of fireplace. TV would be on left side in the space there. But muchos expense and hassle.

Marvellous, was just wondering about that this morning although more in relation to John Lewis.
