SnackPlissken wrote:Ah yes, quite the privileged complaint. Its not the size of the TV, which is perfect, it's just the stupid faux chimney and fireplace that should be a straight wall that annoys me. I can't really get much of a TV unit in the corner and the TV is sort of squished in there. If I push the mount back against the wall, it just about fits in there but once extended out a bit it's sort of crammed looking. Is not a space issue, its room layout. I guess some people love fireplaces. It's a nice fireplace but it also limits my right left speaker options. |

I know, we did for a short period before mounting, but the question is will you be there 100% of the time to check. If it goes wrong it could be quite catastrophic. I understand death by crushing by TV is one of the main causes of accidental death for under 5 year old, it having got worse with flat screena being easier to topple. You can of course also secure with a bracket to the furniture/wall. The risk is low, but relative to other danger it is quite high (and fully preventable), and the outcome of the risk crystallizing is catastrophic. It is a bit like cot death - the chance is very small, but we do a lot to avoid it.

I don't think I would ever wallmount a TV. Maybe I am over paranoid but I feel much happier with a TV on a TV stand... Okay, I only have a 42" at oresent but would happily do the same with a 55" or whatever I could afford.

Registered 14 years agoI too wall mounted due to a toddler.
It's actually what enabled me to go for a 65" as it didn't need to sit on a relatively small TV unit anymore. -

Registered 17 years agoDefinitely makes a bit more sense once you go over 55", just in terms of the practical requirement of tv furniture.
I'd always wanted to do it with my old 65" but it was never practical in the apartments I had, and the two tv units I had were either a little too high or too low for what I wanted. -

Registered 14 years agoYea, you want to make sure that thing stays up so it's external wall or studs to mount.
I went with the below full motion mount and it comes with some serious concrete and wall stud mounting bolts. Something I definitely woudln't be doing in a rented apartment.

Registered 8 years agoExperiencing some odd strobe like flickering on my Samsung and wondered if any has experienced the same issue. It happens rarely and only when streaming through the tv. Suddenly an advert might turn into this weird strobing like flicker until it finishes.
Not sure if it's a fault or related to something? The internet cable is going straight into the telly from the router. -

Registered 8 years agoHa. I did think the router may be the issue. New one on its way anyway.
Derbs, how do i power cycle? Is that just when i unplug it etc?

Registered 17 years agoYeah. Unplug it for 10 seconds, or you should be able to hold the power button down on the controller for a few seconds. -

There is probably a far higher probability of the toddler damaging the TV than the tv damaging the toddler, but both good reasons to keep it out of range.

Registered 13 years agoDaughters 13 now, but when she was about 2 I put her in her room to bed. Literally got to the bottom of the stairs and heard a massive crash. Ran up and the tv had fell on her (the old tube type) she had to have a small op as her top lip had just burst into 2 pieces. Still has a scar now. -

Registered 18 years agoSo after six years of enjoying my Sony Bravia 40 inch I installed the LG CX 50 inch yesterday. My Nintendo Switch looks nice and blurry
Ah well, maybe I'll buy a PS5 one day.
Nah, it is a fine purchase of course. Streaming services look great.
But it also makes me feel empty inside. Because who would spend so much money on something so excessively capitalistic, consumerist(?), in these times of social and environmental upheaval. I should game and watch tv less and do more to make this world a better place.
Anyhoo. This is not the right thread for that. Enough ramblings.
/turns consumer mode on
Could anyone steer me in the right direction, tv image settings-wise for the LG CX?
Thanks a lot! -

Registered 15 years agoManaged to get what seems like a good deal on an LG OLED55CX5LB so thought I'd share -
Richer Sounds £1279.00
By price matching - https://www.thtdirect.co.uk/lg-oled55cx5lb-55-4k-uhd-oled-tv.html
Richer sounds then price match and give a further £20 discount as a 'price bid'. -

Registered 13 years agoThanks for sharing, great price. It's fucking annoying that the smaller 48" version (the only one that will fit my room) is over £200 MORE than that at best

Remove something non essential like your bed. With the 55" OLED you will never want to sleep. -
Buy binoculars, they work the other way round if the telly is too big
