@StixxUK I sit 2.5m from my 65" B8 OLED and I couldn't drop down in size now. Maybe it's my 50 Yr old eyes but 65" is my sweet spot now and it is surprising how quickly you adapt to a monolithic black entity in the room!
I did buy the OLED after 18 months of 1080p 120" projector though, so even that took some adjusting to. What I lost in 'presence' was compensated by the vastly improved and engaging PQ.

How close to the telly do you have to sit for 4k to be worth it with a 55 incher?

Probably time to upgrade now I've got a Series X, but 65 is a bit of a step in price...
I've got a 55" and sit about 6 feet from the telly, and I struggle to see the difference between a decent 1440p image and native 4K. I could pick which one was which if they were side by side, I'm sure.

1080p though sticks out like a sore thumb.

That being said, isn't this a moot point - would you seriously consider a non-4K 55" in 2021?

@Psiloc No but I would seriously considering not buying a new TV at all

    If I buy one I'll get either a 55 or 65

Will probably convince myself the 65 is worth it. And a decent sound bar while I'm at it to replace the tiny satellites + monster sub setup currently in play - could do with some more mids/clearer dialogue. And some kind of stand (I have it in the corner of the room so a wall mount isn't suitable).

edit: am about 2.5m away, probably need to go to 65"

Wall mount on an extending arm? Mine is in corner like this.

Interesting, is there an arm you'd recommend?

The idea scares me a bit, with that much weight and the leverage of being on the end of an arm. A 65 inch LG CX apparently weighs 24kg...

Was also wondering if there was some kind of stand that doesn't look shit or could be hidden by a base unit.

Wall mounted Panasonic GZ950b oled, 8 year old on the Quest 2 vr, takes a swing at something and puts a small screen crack in bottom left corner.
Blacks are better than ever now, anyone any experience of if its even worth bothering looking into repairs?
I was looking for an excuse to go up to 65 so there is a silver lining.
Well, my just under 5 year old Samsung was deemed beyond economic repair by John Lewis because they don't make the screen panel anymore, so no.

(Got 999 towards a new TV. Love John Lewis)

I had similar when my last TV died from them. Absolutely brilliant customer service.

Hmmm...Currys have finally deigned to reply to my faulty OLED C7V case raised through Resolver back in January.

I'd moved on and got the CX..can I still carry on fighting this if I no longer have the faulty telly (it's actually with my stepdaughter now) ?

    I don't think it'll result in fuck-all actually.

Currys are just saying that I should contact LG, get it returned, blah blah; I've said I've got no intention of doing any of that as it's taken em 3+ months to even reply.

I suspect it'll lead to nothing. I was actually asking from the point of view of me no longer having the faulty product in my possession.

My experience with LG customer service with a vertical band on my OLED was that they wanted 1,000 to replace the panel. This was after a full inspection of the issue over Skype/photos/etc. This led to me just buying a new one and relegating the faulty one to the game room to live with the issue.

After a few months it automatically did a panel refresh and the issue completely cleared up. (yes, I'd already tried this manually)

Had a I done what they suggested I'd have thrown away 1,000. And I'd never have known the problem was just temporary.

    @Psiloc

Yeah, I'd completely written the whole thing off tbh; if there's not any kind of decent resolution proposed (ie one that doesn't involve me faffing around), it'll just die the death. If they want to offer some kind of credit note/token gesture that would be great, but I suspect that's just wishful thinking.

@StixxUK any suitable by Vogel. They are like 300+ mind, but for me or is about safety too. I think each bolt can take 90kg and there are like 3.

My m8 has the motorized version and it switches between pointing at sofa ( which is the normal position, straight opposite) and pointing at kitchen which is at 90 degree angle. So it needs to extend our quite far! He has the 65inch Oled I believe.

I've bought a house, moving in july... After the boy broke our Sony 55 xg9505 we've been rocking the 8-year-old Samsung 40". My trigger finger is getting itchy as fuck on a 55 CX. I'm guessing with the Euros coming this summer there'll be some good deals going and I don't even know how I'll have things set up in the new gaff yet.
It would be daft to buy a new TV now, right?

@Technoishmatt Those Vogel arms look awesome, thanks! A little on the pricey side, but as you say - quality is pretty damn important in this use case.

Considering swapping my room around but the OLED would be opposite the french windows. Is that a bad idea? I have a feeling it will be.

I have an 85" QLED (not sure what the difference is) and that gets a fair amount of reflection from the patio doors if it's sunny, so much so I have a curtain for them now.

The problem with big tvs is the massive reflective screens. The sun certainly doesn't help not that I'd know as where I am, winter is not letting go yet.

Thinking of getting a 4k tv and been reading on what to get. Would like like a Neo QLED but out of my price range!. My price range is around 600, maybe 700

the Sony Bravia KD55X7053 seems decent and around 600 (my current tv is bravia 1080p and 7 years old and never had issues) Samsung QE55Q65T is 700 and is qled.

Not sure what to get and are these tv good at upscaling non 4k content? (i know they have their processors for upscaling)

    @Darth_Flibble

I got his one recently, it has a HDMI 2.1 so can do 120Hz, the VRR was supposed to be added via a firmware update but I'm not sure it ever will. Very happy with it.

    https://www.johnlewis.com/sony-bravia-ke55xh9005-2020-led-hdr-4k-ultra-hd-smart-android-tv-55-inch-with-freeview-hd-freesat-hd-youview-dolby-atmos-black/p5547932

Slightly out of your budget but probably worth the extra pennies if you can find them.

@lordofthedunce The new LG C1 offers barely any improvements over the CX (which is better in some ways) so I'd say now is a great time to buy a CX.

I was worried the supply of TVs would dry up around Xmas / new year due to the pandemic, but since buying my 48" CX in October I've watched prices plummet and stock level improve massively.

I'd look for a bargain on a 55" LG CX, or a 65" if you have the room. You won't look back.

Yes, I'm keeping an eye on both CX and BX.. watching season 2 of Mando on the old Sammy did make me miss my previous 4k TV. I'm going to pounce once my mortgage is sorted!
