Just thought this article was funny. Especially this bit: "Whatever people say about America, it is still one of the most wonderful countries in the world, despite the politics, religion and everything else that goes on." Am I missing something. Why exactly is it one of the most wonderful countries in the world then? |

Registered 17 years agoI've been to the US lots of times. NY is fantastic, the rest of it, expecially LA can drop into the ocean for all I care...
Its got great geography, but nothing you can't find elsewhere and the majority of the people are a blight on mankind. -

NY is the most amazing city I've ever been to and the est place to buy breakfast in the world. Just be careful that you are sure of the sex of the 'woman' you are chatting up. A friend of mine had to be rescued from a 'hairy' situation the last time I was there. -

Registered 18 years agoo add my thr'uppence'ha'penny, we went to NYC in the summer an absolutely jaw dropping place. The problem with New yorkers isn't so much that they are rude, it's just that a significant proportion, for whatever reason, live life at lightspeed and beyond, which tends to drag the rest of the permanent population to those kind of speeds.
Toronto, equally jaw dropping, but for different reasons, was like being in the UK, except without the idiots. -
NY is one of those places that is the best, most incredible places you have ever been when you first get there, but for me the magic wears off in a big way. I worked there for 3 summers in a row, and by the end I found it to be a cold, materialistic, selfish place to be. -

Yeah OK, I haven't been as far up as SF etc, but i've heard good things...
Right then, We'll keep Manhatten Island, break off northern CA... Sink the rest!

Ah, but sit in a bar in LA and listen to them talking and tell me you don't want to kick someone's face off.

Not been but it sounds much like the criticsim (and the explanation) us Londerners get. I don't think we're rude at all -

Registered 18 years agoI'm afraid to say that I thought NY was alright. I think I was expecting something far too spectacular, but it ended up having a bit too much in common with home, oddly enough. The cab drivers, the shops, the restaurants were all to similar to what I'm used to. The landscape itself was absolutely amazing, however. I dunno, I think I was mostly disappointed by not hearing a proper Noo Yoik accent.
One good reason not to live in the US though - TV. Aside from the odd decent programme, most of it is atrocious. If anyone thinks the ad breaks during Lost and Six Feet Under are bad, go watch American TV and you'll count your blessings. -

Listening to anyone from the south, especially Florida makes me want to break my ears...
This chick (West wing / Weeds) has an incredibly sexy voice though... thereby pretty much blowing my whole theory...
bah, come back America, you can stay...

Actually I'd love to go to New York. But aren't a lot of people there rude wa*kers?
The only thing that would have topped it would hgave been if the guy had shouted back "Hey! I'm walking here!" -
Mary McCormack's voice (Murder One) pretty much justified the American accent on it's own for me.

Registered 18 years agoI have to say, having lived in D.C for almost two years, that the states is a cool place to live. Helps having an Irish accent. But I have to agree with ruby the TV there is mind numbing plus the amount of time the ads come on make this worse. But i also have to say that the music on a whole over there wasnt to my taste (too many fucking whiney bastards complaining that their girlfriend cheats on them and that they have no friends no balls or personality etc) the "house" parties there suck ass big time even frat parties and they cant drink worth shit. I thought the english were the "complaining kings" before I moved there (and yes I spot the irony in me complaining about complaing) but they're worse like biblical scale worse. My second day there I was on my balcony smoking a ciggy said "hello" to my neighbours who were on their balcony 35 feet away when 30 min later get a knock on the door and its the boys blue asking me not to smoke on MY balcony as its disturbing my neighbours ( who are 35 ft away and like me 16 storeys up with a bitch of a crosswind. I proceeded to annoy them any chance i could after that) Still I'd move back there in a shot.

LOL! I knew it. I formed practically the same picture as you described in my head!
They all drink Miller Light and 2 pints is too much for them, don't smoke (and think its the spawn a Satan), and the TV.....EXACTLY how I imagined. TV is of such a better standard in the UK and (some of) Europe.
