    Hello folks,

Been "out of touch" for a couple of days while I changed my work machine for a 'flash new one'. However, now I've got a weird problem. Everything seems to be much bigger, better, faster, etc. apart from one thing:

The right-click menu on Internet Explorer is taking AGES to come up. Anyone got any ideas what might be causing that? It's got my favourite 'open in new window' command in it. :-(

Whoo, dificult one... could be "anything". I'd do a search on Microsofts Knowledge Base site and if that fails, install the newest IE service pack. That includes the risk of new software failures though :(

Well, here's the solution - I found it on Usenet of all places. Useful information on Usenet? Unheard of!

If you use McAfee virusscan, then the slow-right click is a known problem.

McAfee have a fix as follows:-

    Open Regedit and navigate to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    SOFTWARE
    NETWORK ASSOCIATES
    TVD
    SHARED COMPONENTS
    ON ACCESS SCANNER
    McSHIELD
    CONFIGURATION

Double-click on the ScannerThreadTimeout and change the value to eight f 's
    (ffffffff)

    Close and restart VShield.

And it works! Someone had kindly installed VShield for me when they plopped the operating system on. The bastards.

Blerk, your lucky - wait until they roll out the next part of the Mcafee suite - ePolicy Orchestrator Agent. The bastard thing allows your IT department to set your PCs security policy so that you cannot kill the virus scanner or change its settings.

If you hold down l-ctrl & l-shift when you l-click on a link, it will spawn a new browser.

not to be picky, but you only need to hold shift (either one) and left click. but it just aint the same.

edit - unless you are talking about macs, my shift thing is only tested on windows

Interesting! I had a mate who had this problem for AGES, he finally did a re-install of Windows to get rid of it, after months of suffering. :D
