Registered 19 years agoI dunno, probally... But I think I need to charge the camera. I was told it charges with the firewire cable provided but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. -

Registered 19 years agoYeah that would be a suitable option, although I have the camera from a friend, he gave me the camera and the firewire cable and said it will charge from the computer... Guess he was talking shite then... -

Hi m8,
I have a Cannon MV530i Camcorder and saw your post here
http://www.eurogamer.net/forum_thread_posts.php?thread_id=40030&forum_id=1
I can only see that the camcorder has a USB connection and not firewire, which seems to be needed to connect it to iMovie
All I'd like to do is transfer the video from my tape to iMovie, save it as an avi/mpg, then edit it in Adobe Premier Pro on my Pc
Please can you help me set this up
I only have a USB cable for it, as it's a friend's and he can't find the leads that came with it
It's like a mini USB connector, which fits in the camcorder (above the dc in behind the rubber piece that pulls out to show the connections)
I'd very much appriciate any help asap
Thanks
Take care
Ashley
P.s. I'm on a Powerbook g4 1.5ghz, running iMovie on OSX 10.3.9 -

Registered 19 years agoNot sure it works with a usb cable does it?
I used a firewire cable, the slot for that was in a compartment under the lens bit at the front. But I couldn't get it to work as it wasn't charged. But I am really not helping just now so I am going to stop typing. -

Registered 19 years agoYeah, the one under the lens with DV besire it is the firewire one. I'm afraid I can't tell you much more as I don't have the camera to look at right now. Hopefully someone else will know.

Thanks m8
You've been a great help, as I know nothing about the camcorder myself, as it is my m8's

Yes. But are you going to edit in Premiere Pro on a PC later on? Then I'd REALLY recommend you to do the capture on the PC instead. While Premiere Pro can work with Quicktime DV-files it's REALLY not a very pleasant experience since it will be really slow compared to using native AVI-DV files captured on the PC. The data can be converted without any loss in quality but it requires a very hard to find and expensive little Windows-application so I can't recommend that route either. You could also resave from Quicktime DV to AVi DV but then you're adding one extra generation om lossy compression and it will take HOURS.

If you don't have a cheap firewire-card for your PC, consider getting one, or edit on your PB. FCP kicks Premiere Pros butt anyway. -

I've been looking at FCP and it really does look awsome, so I reckon I'll do the capture on that, edit it and rip to mpg
Thanks
P.s. this camcorder will definately work with FCP, right?
In the DV options of "Premier Pro" you can't select this model for the capture, and Adobe don't show it as one that'll work on their site
???
Just wanna make sure I can do the capture
I'll be using FCP then on my Powerbook!!

Yeah, no worries. ALL DV cameras use the same kind of control protocol, just select Generic DV if you have to select one at all and you're off

It's really simple and works very well.
Good luck! -

Sorry Ash, I got your e-mail and replied before I saw the updates to this thread. As the others have told you, you need a standard firewire cable (large plug one end, small the other) which you connect to the 'DV' socket on the camcorder. You can import directly to iMovie, FCE or FCP (which is a stonking piece of software).
