officially suuuuuuck from the coooooooocks of, well y'know... ;D

After being messed around once to often they're officially being kicked in to touch when my contract is up in two months time. Which means I'll be after a new network... Nice!

So which of the other networks (definately not including three) are any good? Also, anyone have any experience porting a number from one network to another?

    TVM!

I ported my number from T Mobile to 02 a while back.

I had to get all shitty with a buffoon from T Mobile to get a PAK number (which apparently allows you to transfer your phone number). I gave it to 02 and they sorted it all out within a week, it was fairly painless.

I got a fairly good deal from 02, their deals are better if you sign up online, and they've been pretty decent when it comes to customer service and coverage.

Apparently you need to get your PUK code before you leave. I'm not quite sure what this is though. I got something called a PUK code the time last new years where I tried to operate my phone while stupidly drunk and managed to enter the sim unlock code wrong too many times. The code he gave me was mahoosive. I don't know if that PUK (PIN un-lock) code is the same one you need to transfer your number or not though.

Edit: Oh, is it a PAK not a PUK?

    Port Authorisation Code - PAC

edit - in your case this will be a code that looks like ORG... then some numbers. You just give this to your new service provider and they do it all for you. Just make sure to clarify the exact date for the number port. On that day (at some point) the number will magically transfer from one SIM to another

Vodafone are generally seen as having the best coverage, you can get some quite good deals if you haggle with them over the phone

Oh and if you call Orange up and really bitch at them they might let you out of the contract early (worked for me). If not you can reduce your line rental to the lowest cost one then pay off the remaining 2 months early to be shot of them

I was with Vodafone and had no problems with them. I switched to Orange as I wanted an SPV500 cheap, I moved offices and have no reception on Orange. So I've switched to O2 and they seem to have slightly better reception around here than anyone else so far.

Depends where you live on reception. I've found that the Orange and O2 coverage maps are pretty accurate but the Vodafone isn't for me.

I had sweet fuck all reception on Orange (well, 4 bars outsiude the front door, no bars at all inside the house). Currently got 200 cross network minutes and 150 texts for about 28 quid from Vodafone.

The one thing that's putting me off going the Vodafone route is that I can't find any info about data bundles on their website. (It's one of the reasons I'm sacking off Orange. At the start of the year they started charging me for two bundles, apropos of nothing, then a couple of months ago they killed the bundle I was on with nary a word, leaving me with a £30 data bill the next month, but that same month they did tell me they were stopping some video calling thing... twats!)

What I really want t'internet for is to transfer pictures directly from the phone to my web-site, would vf Live preclude that?

Sorry, haven't a clue about that. O2 are advertising their internet through handset thing at the moment, they'll probably have info on the website

O2 work for me. Good coverage, and some great online only deals. I've got 300 off peak minutes and 500 texts for £20 a month. No idea what the score is with i-mode though....you might be able to get a good deal as they're pushing that quite heavily.

through i-mode on O2 you can visit any site... but the phones available so far are not worth it IMO for internet usage (s500i, NEC 411i)

(I do outbound sales for O2...)

Good tarriff for I-mode and 3g by O2 aswell:

    (18 month)

    750 mins, 750 text, or
    1000 mins, 150 text

    for £35.00 a month.

plus unlimited d/l til jan, and unlimited MMS 'til april 2006.
