I guess I have the UK one. According to wiki though the only difference between them is the US radio version of "Creep", with "so fucking special" replaced by "so very special".
    Can't say I missed out.
  • Deleted user 21 July 2009 13:09:22
Nah, a few of the tracks are different, especially "stop wispering".

OK Computer is the most complete and therefore brilliant album produced in my lifetime (31 years and hopefully counting).

It might not be my *favourite* (I can't decide that), but it's unquestionably the most important and - objectively, as objective as you can get with music - 'best' in that time.

Closely followed by The Saturdays' debut.

That's the point, Pablo Honey WAS a good indie album for the time, but when you compare it to what Radiohead became from The Bends onwards, it's utter gash.

I doubt you'd get Thom writing a song about wanking over a girl he can't have now a days. Not unless it was some kind of economic protest...

Because he grew up. Pablo Honey is still ace, but the songs don't really reflect my present state of mind anymore so while musically it's still there for me, lyrically it isn't. The Bends and Ok Computer, more so, are adult albums. I can still relate to them. Virtually everything else post-Airbag EP (aside from the odd track and some b-sides) is a racket from a deranged melody challenged jazz mental patient. Can't relate to that either. Still, in my books they've earned the right to do whatever the fuck they like. And better they keep changing then pushing out the same old stuff.

I'm not overly fussed about OK Computer mysef. I love it, but I don't consider it one of the greatest albums of all-time, nor Radioheads best. Maybe it's because I only got into Radiohead during the Kid A/Amnesiac era. Who knows? Anyway, here's my list...

    1. In Rainbows
    2. Kid A
    3. Amnesiac
    4. OK Computer
    5. Hail to the Theif
    6. The Bends
    7. Pablo Honey

I find the Bends to be less and less 'relevant' to me. High and Dry, however, is superb. Doesn't mean I dislike it, or never listen (same with PH), but given the height some later songs reach, it doesn't quite do it.

Street Spirit could easily sit alongside most of Radiohead's later material though. It's the stand out track on The Bends and also the most different to everything else on there.

Ah Pitchfork... remember when you, like many others hated Kid A? Do you remember that? Do you remember calling it pretentious art-house crap that was the definition of a band completely loosing all control over their music and running out of ideas?...

On an unrelated note... Pitchfork have some nice ads for these album reissues don't they?

Well I loved Kid A at the time,Amnesiac was more of a grower for me.Now at the end of the decade they heralded ,the 2 albums kind of give me a semi.

I'm quite new to Pitchfork, not sure about their politics.Press innit.

I'm sure I remember reading a bitchy review of Kid A on pitchfork around the time it came out... that was where a lot of my hatred for the site stemmed from.

Nah, they've always loved it. They're massive Radiohead fanboys (not that I mind!). Kid A was number 1 in their 00-04 list too. It's favourite for number 1 of the decade, I'd say.

Hmm fair enough. Well I 'know' one music site slated it on release, but then gradually started to join the army of Kid A lovers after.

I think NME did a similar thing as well.
  • Deleted user 30 August 2009 16:35:01
    What site was that?

Oh, and obligatory NMElol. I hope they do an Oasis tribute issue; I'd never stop laughing.
  • Deleted user 30 August 2009 20:47:46
Y'know, I once got fired from the NME. True story.

    For having musical knowledge?
  • Deleted user 30 August 2009 20:53:27
Well i have that, but no :)

I was hired in to do work on their pitiful website. Became obvious it was a bit of a farcical project (lets make it more MySpace!) so I took lots of days off to work on other stuff as they couldn't get their shit in order and I was sat doing nothing all day.

Turns out the journo's can get away with that, but not Pandas.

Also, for the record, my favourite Radiohead LP's are The Bends and Kid A. They're all good but those are my picks. i can sing all the lyrics to The Bends and often had to on long car trips to keep myself awake at the wheel. It's a bloody good album for that.

Kid A just is the best album for wandering around in the ice and snow of winter with it on your walkman or ipod or whatever.

    Sweet.

I'm listening to the Hail To The Thief b-sides now and not to sound like a gushing fanboy but... Radiohead haven't done anything wrong post-Bends, have they?
  • Deleted user 30 August 2009 21:06:06
The B-sides from Hail to the Thief and also Amnesiac (bit more hit and miss that one) are pretty awesome.
  • Deleted user 30 August 2009 21:08:41
I've never heard the b-sides, just got round to grabbing them (I'm not getting into that moneygrab since I bought the albums already, thanks EMI).

I've always thought Amnesiac was very under-rated by a lot of people. It doesn't really deserve to be written off as just Kid A b-sides, or 'Kid B' as some people call it. Same for In Rainbows, a lot of people seem to hate that in my experience yet I think it's their best.
  • Deleted user 30 August 2009 21:17:54
its all out there on the web. i read the pitchfork reviews and checked out the amazon track lists and although i don't have the live tracks they've added, i have all the b-sides from a torrent i got ages ago.

can't say anything radiohead has released is bad. amnesiac might have fared better in people's opinions if they'd double albumed it with kid a but it suffered from a perception it was the scraps. shame really.

Radiohead B-Sides are often stunning and just as good as what makes it onto their album.

Infact, there are more than a few HTTT B-Sides which I think are much better than some of the album tracks. Case in point: Where Bluebirds Fly which is an almighty track and of course the beautiful Gagging Order, which really should have been on the album.

Not seeing much love for their first album. Not up to their later standards?
  • Deleted user 30 August 2009 22:34:44
Heads up to everybody who doesn't know; BBC 3 are showing Radiohead at Reading in 10 mins.
