Depends on what type of game you like, I suppose. I personally preferred the SNES. It's got some fantastic RPGs, all the 2D platform games (All-stars, Mario World, Yoshi's Island, the Donkey Kong Country games etc), and lots of other stuff of various flavours. Oh, and Link to the Past! And R-Type!

    SNES.

I find its visuals age much better thanks to its increased colour palette, you also have the Square RPG's, the proper Mario games (how i miss them) and, well, Mario Kart!

I won a SNES about 2 years ago in a local school raffle, was well chuffed coz it came with the Mario all stars collection and Street fighter 2 alpha and 2 pads. Saying that though I would recommend just getting an emulator for your PC, mainly because it's a bit hard these days getting hold of games. I used to have to go to a market about 10miles away to buy mine.

snes 9x-1 is a good one if you are willing to overlook the moral ambiguity of downloading games of a long dead console.

I'll have to say SNES too, for all of the same reasons above.

Ebay is were I got all of my SNES games and consoles. (US and PAL) If you're not too bothered about manuals and boxes you'll find most games reasonably cheap. Only the rare rpg's like Earthbound and Chronotrigger will cost a bundle, even in cartridge only version. Besides, you would need a US SNES for those two.

I'd recommend ebay too, I've got tons of retro type stuff from there for next to nowt.

Oh, and if you buy a PAL SNES, you can still play US games using a converter which you can also pick up from ebay for a quid or two.

I'm sure there was a thread a couple of months back where someone linked to a site that was selling brand new SNES's.

There's been some sort of warehouse clearance and they'd found thousands of brand new consoles that had been forgotten about.

I'll see if I can find it...

Unless you want the "total package" of sitting down with the actual console etc, then why not try emulators first? You can get the same games for free.. just get a decent gamepad - the USB/PS2 works great..

Some gamestations have a few old SNES games. Otherwise try markets and car boots.
