Goblet of Fire Page 2

I can't quite remember what Gambon was like but I distinctly remember how un-Dumbledore the other guy played him. I know everyone said it was a big deal when he died but from a Dumbledore point of view I was glad someone else was gonna play him.

I thought the lake scene was actually the best portrayed of all the tasks. And I like the ball scene a lot, too. Nice reality check.

Also, my problem with the comic relief was less 'piss off' than simply any time the Weasley twins opened their mouths. Jesus christ.

Pretty good film, I liked the tasks, they were pretty cool.

There were some real cringey moments though.

    Only 2 and a half, I'm afraid.

Had it been 3 hours, like I said, I reckon I'd be sitting here singing its praises, rather than picking its flaws, of which there were just slightly too many to stop it short of being excellent.

I agree, that scene was very good. The graveyard scene at the end was also very good imho. Voldemort's is actually quite a scary character, Joseph Fiennes (I think it's him) did a good job.

And Cho Chang? Never imagined her to be Scottish! :/

I have to be honest, I don't remember the book all that well. It's been a good two years, though. Don't Ron and Hermione tell Harry how the other 3 dealt with their dragons? I'd have liked to have seen it.
Yeah, that's how it went. I was just satisfied with the more expansive version of Harry vs. the Horntail, but I agree it would have been fun to see.

I remember some fella called Bagman vaguely, but nothing about what his relevence was. Didn't Percy fit in somewhere as well? The whole Quidditch World Cup sequence was rushed. At the very least, we should've seen the actual game.
Well, he wasn't too relevant, he was mainly a narrative device, but I thought he was fun and could have been excellent given the right actor. Percy worked for Barty Crouch Snr., but wasn't really neccesary once they decided to rework the back story of his sons actions immediately prior to GoF. I was quite pleased, as I had hoped they would get away from house elves as much as possible. Seeing Krum produce a Wronski feint and also catching the snitch would have been nice, but I think they were probably set on no Quidditch if Harry wasn't going to be involved.

I quite liked how they handled Barty Crouch Jr. in all but the tongue-flicking - that was poorly judged. The audience knew who Mad Eye Moody really was, then, long before we did in the book. The end sequence was also rushed - where was the emphasis on Snape and Malfoy as Death Eaters? Where was Harry's frantic questioning of Dumbledore?
I really missed Voldemort's exposition of the missing spaces in the circle of Death Eaters in the graveyard too, but they have time to build Snape up in the next film before his main role in HBP. I agree the Harry/Dumbledore interaction was missing at the end of the film, especially seeing as how it is a big display of how Dumbledore's connection with Harry has developed.

Do me a favour! I'm fucking dreading it.

I can't possibly see how it will be good, in any way. Not even if it's selectively spliced with the 6th book in an effort to make a complete film. There's no way it can be good. Without a complete re-writing.

The story from the 4th book onwards is, I'm sorry to say, just inherently bad.

Oh, AND ANOTHER THING... what about that naughty unregistered animagus, eh? Eh? Filthy tabloid scum.
Sorry, that was sort of a tongue-in-cheek Emma Watson related comment. I agree, I'm very worried about the next film, it will be amazingly difficult to actually sell it to people who don't absolutely love the characters, and even harder to make the narrative tight enough to produce a good film. I also disagree that the story is inherently bad, I hugely enjoy it, Rowling just isn't a natural enough writer to make it work in a critic-approving type of way.

Also, never liked Rita, I was glad they kept her to a minimum.

The lake scene had the best single shot of the film, with Harry diving down past the cliff. A better sense of the scale of Hogwarts and the associated world than in any previous film.

I knew who she was gonna be almost a year ago, her cousin is in my year at school you see.
Rather annoyed, was gonna go see this tonight, and assumed my mate had booked tickets, but he hadn't, so when we went into town it was sold out in every cinema :(

Just got back from it and I thought it was fairly crappy.

Bad acting except for Ron who seems to be more natural, but that may be because he's the only typical idiot kid. Mad eye, Krum and the French girl were cast badly, Dumbledore is really annoying and Trigger will never be anyone else.

The story was badly done - you do need to read the book if you really want to be entertained by that aspect, as it explains fuck all in the movie.

The first hour especially is terrible; just a series of 2 minute scenes that quickly change or rush over any story there should be. It slows down after the dance and becomes more enjoyable but nowhere near 'great'. There was no Quidditch World Cup, no real intro to the 2 other schools and the initial part in the Riddle house wasn't what it should have been. The trials were badly done and very predictable (and I'm not that far into the book yet).

There was some very nice CG shots and creatures - the Horntail especially - but I didn't really expect anything less after the last 2 movies.

Lastly Voldemort was crap. No imagination what so ever put into his design, just typical 'by the numbers' fantasy baddie. After the other creature designs he was a total let down.

Personally, I'd rate the movies PoA, CoS, GoF, PS.

Emma Watson though - I thought she was nice in the first film (yeah it's wrong, but it's not like I've actually done anything) but in this one she's almost stunning.

In all fairness, re: Voldemort's design, he's very close to how he's described in the book, so there wasn't a lot they could do. Also, I thought Krum was cast well in the context of how he was portrayed in the film, but was definitely not in line with how the literary version.

So are you suggesting that I should ACTUALLY wear an overcoat to the cinema? And one with a soft lining that dampens the sound? Are the scenes with her in quiet or what? And are there shots of her that are longer than 10 seconds long?

What? I just have to prepare beforehand that's all, it's an art.

Yes, to all of the above. Especially the dance - she's a fine young lady.

I'll guess that you don't need much more than 10 seconds Cubby, so I'd say you'll be fine :p

Yeah, should've really said that to help prevent demands, but well, after some of the previous posts I reckon it'd only increase the demand.....
