So I've been headhunted... yes me, can you believe it?

Getting a call later with some more details, how on earth did they end up choosing me?

Any idea on how these head-hunting agencies work?

True, there's a difference between being "headhunted" by a recruiter and being headhunted by HR from an actual company.

Head-hunting either isn't what it used to be, or I'm getting it a lot more than I used to (I think it's the former unfortunately).

These days, it seems like 'hunters' are finding your CV online somewhere (or buying it from internet-based agencies/meta-agencies) and patten-matching jobs to CVs by keyword.

Clue: Put 'no experience of' and some massively exploding technology name and watch teh phone rign off-the-hook because some hunter's are key-word searching :)

I get a call a week from your typical Aussie temp girl over in teh UK on sabatical working in the battery-hen-like call offices of CV scalpers.

All that said Tiger, if it's a *real* headhunter, you should feel VERY proud... Those 'traditional' agencies ALWAYS work on the word-of-mouth principle, so someone well up there has mentioned you and your name and given you úber-props...

Await their offer, laugh, say "ok so serious now".
Pretend to be insulted and ask at least 30% more.

Buy tat with the extra new income.

Hmm headhunters are basically sales people.

I get phoned every 3 months (almost to the day) and if I do like the sound if it my CV gets submitted along with 100 others (all by the same company). They work on the principal that the more people they submit, the more likely they are to get their sale.

Not all work like that though, so good luck

OK aside from the important facts of this post. Care to explain what led you to post you was a 'ferrero rocher' dispenser?!?!?!

    NTL, doubt it.

I was told that they have separate telesales and support teams but I'm sure NTL's turnover is greater than that.

Be careful. I got "headhunted" once.

    It went like this:

Recruitment firm had a vacancy but no suitable candidates
Recruitment firm called my office asking who was in charge of such and such.
Recruitment firm called back asking for me even though they knew nothing about me, just pretending they had been reccomended me.

Plus alot of recruitment firms will offer incentives to people they place. When I got a banking job they said to me "if you know anyone who wants work, give me their details and if we find them a job you'll get £500".

Could be - they were after me recently before I got this current job and I know they are looking to expand big time. Despite a good interview and 8 years retail management experience, they said they'd take me, but only after 6 months on the shop floor as a regular salesman (with no guarantee of promotion) on £12k basic. Nice waste of an afternoon that was.

Thats a pretty good salary for retail! Their OTE with commision was actually alot higher (I think they said about 21k). But OTE is always bollocks when given by a manager/HR dept.

    I was on 8.5k as a Game employee :S
