this new extreme make-over eurogamer had, it's very vibrant and colourfull (a bit childish one might say).

The old look was very stylish, it seemed professional and intelligent, it was a real beauty. best layout i've ever seen.

so, it's been a few months now, let's look what everyone else thinks, i thought.

hmm. can't make a poll, so let's do it this way: put your vote in black letters. i'll give the old layout a 9 and the new a 5.

    9/5

BTW can anyone post a picture of the old layout? it looks so good, i just want something to remember it by.

Biggest problem I have is the very large amount of real estate the ads are taking up on the site. However these guys need to keep the site going so it's understandable.

On the whole layout thing I think the latest evolution of the site is the best yet with the exception of the title bar at the very top. I just don't like it. For myself the whole left hand side of the title bar is ignored. I just think it's misplaced.

In general 9 for the new layout and 8 for the old.

These guys have put so much effort into this place they should be proud. #1 gaming site on the interwebathingamibob imho.

Notice that the amount of ad space has gradually gotten bigger and bigger with each iteration.

In two years time it will just be adverts :(

After a few weeks no-one will notice's the changes; I think the new lay-out is fine.

    TBH I would vote

    2000 - 5
    late 2001-2 - 7
    late 2003 - 8
    2005 - 9

I dunno it just looks a lot more organised now.

Gosh! I didn't realise I'd been coming here so long! It was on 2 when I first had a nose, but 3 is the familiar one and my lurking favourite.

Think new layout is fine, but hate the ads even more. Eventually got adblock for FF to stop lock-ups.

I like the new look as the Eurogamer sign is now a lot smaller than in the older EG webpages. It was a nightmare at work with that massive logo. So I'd give it a 9. I also like the new voting thing

I do have a softspot for look two though. I'd give that one an 8 but I think the logo just isn't big enough ;).....have you seen the size of that mofo!

The second design was fucking awful. I can't for the life of me think why anybody still likes it apart from the smaller amount of ads. If the site was still running with that design today it would be a bloody laughing stock for looking like something a cat from 1998 dragged in.

The current one (you can't even really call it new any more - in fact, why are we even talking about now?) is fine, and pretty much in line with what I'd expect of a site this size, with the thankful exception of swathes of content locked away for paying visitors.

The main thing is that this site works very well.
I'd give it an 8. I'm not too fussed about the past.

I'm concerned about the amount of Ads there are on this site, they are steadily increasing.
One of the main reasons why I visit IGN a lot less (infact hardly ever) is because all the
info I need is here. The Ads on this site slow my work PC right down to snail pace.
I don't have any control over the config of my PC because it's Thin client.

I really hate those Ads that expand in size or flash and animate obtrusively.

Aside from that, it’s all hunky-dory.

    Cheers!

That is why I browse the site with all the ads blocked... I feel slightly guilty, as I know the ads pay for the content, but esp. as I am, er, occasionally ;) at work I can't be doing with all the flash-ness.

Well there were a few looks

    Look 1 (early 2000)
Look 2 (late 2000, with a few tweaks along the way)
    Look 3 (late 2003)

Then the new look, whenever that was introduced (can't remember any more).

My personal favourite is Look 2 as that's how it was when I first started coming here regularly and it was the most work friendly (and the search function worked, and 'latest comments' and 'comments by poster'...). :)

Looks a damn site more professional now though.

    Heh. :)

    I didn't cast my votes, did I?

Well in order, going from look 1 to look 4, votes out of ten, I'd have to say:

    6 - 10 - 8 - 9

Wider ads which are still pretty unobtrusive or popups which sometimes cant be closed (football365 I'm looking at you)? I know what I'll take.
