quick question: DVD Region 4, do they play on region 2 players?

    i know it might seem daft to some but i'm sure i remember reading somewhere that region 4 and region 2 were virtually the same thing.

    They are two distinct regions as far as the dvd player is concerned. What you will find is that because Australia (Region 4) uses PAL as well as us, a lot of dvds will secretly be set to both regions to save the publisher money.

    I wouldn't rely on this though, especially with DVDs from big companies - I've got an R4 copy of The Matrix that won't play on a R2 player, but an R4 Yes Minister (from BBC) that will.

    ah i see! thanks for clearing that up. I remember buying a region 4 monsters inc from cdwow that said it could play on region 2. I'm pretty sure that there'll be a region free code for the dvd player that i want to use it on if it doesnt play first time.
