I love the F&F films myself! Ridiculous but great fun. -

Also, nothing happens to the characters. At least the first two films gave you character arcs and development. This film leaves them in exactly the same place that Into Darkness left them - the things they deal with are introduced purely for and resolved within the runtime, there's nothing that changes them or that they take forward, which is why it feels so flat.
There was a weird lack of peril though, it never felt like the characters were in any danger. And Krall was a bit of a flat villain. -
Wonder if that lack of development is why it feels a bit like an unimportant TV episode. Everything resolved and the status quo reaffirmed.
As far as the F&F franchise goes, they're undoubtedly dumb, and vary in quality but can be entertaining enough. Never found them offensively bad, unlike some other big budget, money making franchises.
Which is pretty much how I've seen the rebooted Trek. Kinda dumb, but entertaining enough. I guess I'd put the new Trek films a step higher than F&F. -

Registered 17 years agoJust got back from the film.
Weakest of the 3 films for me.
Plot, what plot.
Rubbish baddie and I like Idris
Simon pegg's shite accent which he lost towards the end somewhat and over use of the word "lassie"
Bones sounding very wooden.
...oh well, Bourne in a week or two.

I have to disagree, I quite like Urban's Bones. Especially when playing against Quinto's Spock. Their chemistry is the only truly remarkable thing about the last film. -
I dislike Quinto's Spock a fair bit. Seems like a bit of a bell end in these films. Not a patch on Nimoy in any department. -

Registered 17 years agoSaw it last week, it was OK, but yet again the protagonist's only motivation was revenge against Starfleet. Like in number two. And a little bit like number one. They really need some new plot devices. And why aren't we getting more Klingon stuff?
It was OK over all. I liked the Bones/Spock interplay but at the same time it felt a little forced. I don't feel any of the other characters were developed all that much, although I suppose you could argue Kirk was.
Everything felt a bit too convenient as well. Locked in a cell? No problem, we'll get the little alien engineer to sneeze on the lock.
6 out of 10. Felt a bit unremarkable.

It was OK, barely... But how did the motorbike scene get into the film? Seriously. Who thought 'needs more motorbikes!' when writing that script.
