Cheap hotels in Amsterdam?

Trying to go to Amsterdam with 6 mates (all male) for NYE.

Does anyone know of any cheap hotels that'll put us up for 2 nights?

can't remember any specific names, but charmingly named "Harlem" area is pretty close to to the main station and other entertainments likely to appeal to the single male. Quite cheap places can be had there. But if you're daring, at this time of year you could probably afford to just turn up and ask at the tourist info which is just outside the station.

Did a stag do there in May

All the hotels on Damrack (sp?) are reasonable, 2 minutes from the red light district and opposite a big English pub called the Grasshopper

Hotel Damrack was where I stayed...nice enough, but their breakfasts are shite
