    OK,

Maybe its obvious but, why is it in some pictures of cars, either on TV or on the internet the number plate of the car is sometimes removed or blanked out?

I mean what is the point, I understand product names are blanked out to prevent free advertisting and such, but for a number plate I don't know they're everywhere.

    :S

To protect the identity of the drivers (who hadn't given permission for their car to appear on TV).

    Well I presume anyway.

Interesting fact: in Switzerland they publish a book in which you can look up the name and address of a person relating to a registration plate.

    /imagines all sorts of uses.

Can't you in England just walk to a police station and say a car with such-and-such plate hit your car and ask for the details of the car owner?

    Don't know, never tried...

It's not as easy as just looking in a book to see where the hottie in the car next to you lives though is it? ;p

Or write to the DVLA claim your a business and that they were caused damage on your property. So I've been told.
