The title of this thread is misleading. The truth is that all Pink Floyd albums are worthless.

The Wall got me into music, and the Beatles which made me appreciate music, need to go full circle and listen to the floyd catalogue.

I agree but I'd argue that Zeppelin were a spent force by the mid 70s. And the early Beatles stuff is an acquired taste.
Animals.
Like many bands, Floyd have a great creative period.
Dsotm,.Animals, wish you were here, the wall, and the album with Echoes on it. Everything before and after is usually poor.
Some exceptions exist, like the Beatles and Led Zep, but are the exception rather than the rule. -

Registered 9 years agoAnimals could well be my favourite PF album too, if I could choose a favourite. After all these years it still has something I'm not going to try and put my finger on, but I can't think of another album that sounds anything like it.
It's also not, at least for me, the kind of album I'd play over and over again, the way you might get lost in Meddle, or have WYWH on while chilling. So I don't feel like I've overdone it (sadly, I have listened to some albums, including DSotM, so much that I have to leave it a long while before listening again). -

Registered 17 years agoJust watched the bluray of Roger Waters The Wall. Stunning, it was always going to be I love and I mean LOVE The Wall. The audience shots were a bit cack and the film interludes could be perceived as self indulgence, but I liked them.
The extra disc has the standout moment when Dave
joined in at the O2 for Comfortably Numb.

Registered 8 years agoI was kind of expecting that for christmas but it never came
I went the night before Gilmour Played CN with them (typical), but it was such a overwhelming experience. I was almost in tears by Mother ha.
Only two bands have done that to me, Roger playing the wall, and Bo Ningen. -

Registered 10 years agoI was just thinking that it's funny that with one of the main reasons for PF falling apart (aside from Waters' ego and Wright's coke addiction) was the other 3 not matching his creative output, now Gilmour seems to be producing a lot more music than Waters. -

Registered 10 years agoI've been listening to Gilmour's new album in the last few weeks and I'm really quite impressed, it's easily his best solo album.
"A boat lies waiting" is beautiful, the harmonies with Crosby and Nash are sublime. -

Not sure I agree with that statement, each to his own of course. The correct order
1: On an island. Stunning album. Now that is what you call sublime.
2: David Gilmour. Good debut solo offering
3: RtL. Sounds like Chris Rea in parts. Not an unpleasant album
4: About face. Very 80s of course, but I love the 80s! -

Registered 18 years agoAs much as my top 5 albums shuffle about The Wall is always in there.
It is Roge pretty much baring his soul and fell out with everyone whilst doing so but there's so much going on, some amazing pieces of music as well as some very personal and moving lyrics. I can listen to the "2nd side" all day.
So, The Wall for me. -

Good call
I adore The Wall, listened to it last night in fact. I also listen to The Final Cut weekly if not daily! -

Registered 5 years agoDark Side is the best IMO.
Really didn't like The Wall -- however, the movie is very good and the music fits it well.
Most underrated is Obscured by Clouds. Nice '60s psychedelic feel to it with a polished sound. Not as raw as the Syd stuff. Childhood's End is a nice precursor to Time on DSOTM. The Gold... is also a tune.

Registered 19 years agoThe Wall will always be special to me. Never forget when my local video shop obtained a copy of the film for me whilst it was still on the banned list. Can't remember exactly how many of my mates crammed into my bedroom that night - but I do remember that nobody said a single word from start to finish.
+1 for Animals as best album too. Big man, pig man. Haha charade you are. -

Will dive in (again) to pimp Meddle and Animals.
I'd also like to opine that Pink Floyd are massively overrated. So, so many other prog bands from that era are barely remembered yet wrote just as good material (if not better) and were usually better instrumentalists to boot.
