I don't have much time for Floyd , but The Wall is a work of genius. Start to end, pure talent, emotion, ability and balls. The rest of it can FRO. |
Best Pink Floyd album

Registered 18 years agoDark Side and Wish you were here for me too, no particular order. So good, they're the reason Floyd are my favouirte group even though i detest every single other thing they've done. -

edit: I change my vote to Wish You Were Here.
Hurrah
What made you change your mind?
Just listened to it again recently. The opening to Shine On Pt1 is just fantastic. The whole album seems to have an atmosphere that isn't there any of their other works. -

if any of you are right in to Pink Floyd do a search on Torrent sites and look for Dub Side of the Moon, it's a nice twist on what is a truly great album, for those of you not sure what Dub is then here goes - it is very similar to reggae with a very spacy relaxing edge which is well chilled to listen to. enjoy folks if you find it!! -

I heard Radio Kaos for the first time in over a decade the other day and it's a lot better than I remember (apart from the final track). Not as good as Amused to Death, but well worth picking up. -

Registered 17 years agoFor me it's Animals. I've always loved the mood, the melodies, and the sentiments of the lyrics.
It's also the only album of their's that I can listen to as a concept piece, or as separate tracks, and still get loads from it/ them. I love tunes like 'Time' and 'The Great Gig in the Sky'. and WYWH and 'Welcome to the Machine', but I never find myself putting them on outside the context of the album...The same with anything on The Wall. But I often put 'Dogs' and 'Sheep' on in isolation and get a great deal of pleasure from them...But the album also works superbly as a concept.
There's also a really weird sense of 70's nostalgia I get from all the keyboard sounds on the album...I don't know how they did it, but they've embodied 70's rundown London in just a few notes. To me their most epic and evocative album. -

As some smart arse pointed out, it's the Live8 audio.
The Live8 performance is very special, Remember that Night is the best of the live albums (IMO) even though it isn't Floyd Echoes, Shine On and High Hopes are exceptional on it.
I didn't like Pusle - too relentlessly 80s in sound.
My favourite, not sure about best, Floyd album is Wish You Were Here. Only Have a Cigar I can do without. For me, 50% of Pink Floyds output is absolute shit, and the other 50% is class.
Everything post-Waters, bar a few great songs, is rubbish. But they did a lot of crap when he was there too, especially on the Wall which I don't like much of. Maybe 5 songs. IMO Waters is the heart and soul of Floyd, the gritty awkward and pissed off element, and Gilmour is the attractive front, the incredible puppet, if that makes sense. -

Registered 17 years agoThe only track I like on Momentary lapse is that short interlude 'Round & Round'...haunting stuff.
The Final Cut takes the whiniest side of Waters from The Wall but turns it up to a level that actually annoys. Some good melodies on it though, but quite tiresome. -

Its all relative..its shit compared to PF's back catalogue, but compared to most things its quite good.
As for best PF album, my choice always rotates between Meddle, Animals and Wish You Were Here. Depends on my mood. -

I'd listen to the looped sounds of a dog having it's balls cut off with a rusty spoon if it had a Gilmour guitar track over the top of it. -
