Having had a little time to analyse my performance or lack of I can see that after I went wrong I was a bit paranoid about going wrong again so kept up with two others who went wrong at the same time when in reality they were going about 30s a mile quicker than I should have been so by the time the second lap was due I was out of puff and I knew I was going to struggle. The first few miles were pretty enjoyable with a few hundred runners lighting each other up as we went, a bit spectacular if you will but thereon in it got pretty lonely and dull with nothing to see except the ground my torch lit up with barely anyone around, odd as I've run dozens of times in the pitch darkness on my own and it's never bothered me, I guess here I had the capability of getting completely lost. :)

Half marathon tomorrow. Sleet showers and wind forecast. Butter my arse. Too much to ask for a nice day!! Still, hoping to get a decent time. Aiming for 1hr 30 but Iíll be well happy with 1hr 35 if I manage that. Any slower and Iíll be a bit disappointed but this weather could mean Iím much slower.

Me too! Mine's in London so I'm only expecting it to be a bit windy. Still, aiming for about 1h55 - I'll be disappointed if I don't beat that...

    Good luck Wunty

Crikey. Soon as the race started the heavens opened. I wanted to start crying around the 7 mile mark as freezing sleet was blown horizontally into my face as I ran up hill.

1:33:33 though. Iím over the moon at that given the conditions.

Flying_pig I hope yours was more enjoyable!!

Fortunately for us the rain stopped before the start, but it was still very windy the whole way - there was almost 1 miles running directly into a headwind and on a cobbled street D:

Still, beat by PB by about 3 minutes to finish in 1:56 which I'm pretty satisfied with. Maybe I'll do another HM later this year and see if I can get below 1h55...

I was also the first to finish out of the group of us from work who ran - beating the next person by almost 10 minutes :)

1:33 is way, way beyond by abilities (I can't even run 5k at that pace!) - so big congratulations!

Excellent! That'll be 1:20 in better conditions ;)

@Flying_Pig I think I could have coped with the rain but the wind was brutal, you have my sympathies!!

Well done on beating your PB! Cobbled street sounds a bit brutal as well actually. Think I beat mine by a couple of minutes too (weirdly I got a bit faster the last half I did but I have my doubts about the course length as even my gps thought it was a few 100 metres short, so Iím taking todayís time as my PB instead).

To be honest I never thought I would ever do something like this in this time. Itís spurred me on a bit now. I was getting depressed about my age as well so itís helped a bit.

@Jono62 Good luck! I've got my first half marathon next Saturday and really haven't been able to do a much training as I would have liked. Hoping to have a good day and that adrenalin and sheer determination will get me to the end.

And of course, its going to be the hottest day of the year.

    Nice one Jono :D

Does anyone use a knee supporter when running? My left knee twinges something awful and I was wonderingb if it'd help.

Have your gait looked at, itís probably twinging because your foot pronates and if so footwear can help

I was suffering with a tracking issue of both knees but once I started to do specific strengthening exercises for the muscles around the knees things improved bit by bit.

So I'm off to do my first half marathon trail run today. On the hottest day of the year so far. Not prepared for this!

@RichDC Just go easy in the first half and you'll be OK, it's so so easy to get pulled along by the others at the beginning as seemingly so many can overtake you in the first few miles but if you pace yourself properly you'll be overtaking most of them later on. Or just follow a pacer if they have them. Good luck and enjoy it, otherwise there's no point.

Thanks freddy. Trying to keep pace with others is always one of my worst habits so I'm definitely sticking to my own for today!

Drink a bit at plenty of the water stations if it is as toasty as it could be, if you're lucky, they may have showers to run through, but i tend to avoid them due to worrying about getting sweat washed into my eyes, so have no idea if they're any good. 😀

I can't stand those silly showers you're refreshed for approximately 3 seconds and then you're just wetter than before!

I've got a half marathon in October. Looking to beat the time I did last year, which was my first, which was 2 hours 30 minutes.

Who knew running was so addictive!
