Doesn't sound too great overall though does it? I don't want to get into an arguement with teh Sony fanboyz but I do think that it's a good article for getting those expectations back into realistic territory. 2007 seems a long way off for them now though, particularly when the 360 is out now and gathering interest and support. I thought Sony had claimed it was going to be this year for PS3? Can they really afford to wait till next year? What's Nintendo's projected release date for the Rev? Judging by this article, Sony could well be the last to release their next-gen console.

    Quick summary from another forum.

The PS3 is barely more powerful than the 360. There's no blu-ray in the dev kit and devs are making games to fit on DVDs. The graphics are virtually identical but the PS3 can handle more things going on at once. No devs so far are making games that support 1080P. They are making games in 720P and letting the PS3 upgrade them. They also have to do FSAA in software.

    The end.

Basically its what sensible people knew all the time. Now can we get back to the games. E3 should be a belter for once.

Not that great, is it? Obviously there's still time for devs now that 2007 is looking more likely, but if it stays like this (which it won't) I pity the fools who are waiting for a PS3 because it has 'teh bettr gfx'.

Oh look, a PS3 thread on Eurogamer, can't possibly predict the responses this'll produce!

It's what we were expecting basically, then? It'll be funny reading people slate the console for being shit because it's "only" at least as powerful as the 360 on the comments threads.

Watch it mate, you're beginning to sound like me!

I still can't wait, if nothing else, past experience has taught me that Playstation always delivers on the games front, can't see why this won't do the same.

Bring it the fuck on, I say.

Yep, and the launch window (This sound like a NASA speach) isn't near yet, just image the nightmare that the 360 was with all the fanboys ravaging around, and now imagine it 1000 times worst...

As for the games front, I must admit you're right the PS1 and the PS2 did deliver... so like you say: bring it the fuck on!

That was extremely interesting. Sounds a lot like the situation with PS2 - There will be a vast difference in quality depending on what the developers can do.

Unfortunately is does also mean the PS2 hating idiots will have continued employment...

"The hands-on evidence is beginning to mount up. We're talking about a machine barely superior to Xbox 360 - not by any significant margin. It's certainly obvious this machine is not "twice" as powerful as 360, let alone a generational leap ahead."

So much for the "real next gen" then, eh? Then again we always knew it was BS. ^_^

Still, that's a lot of egg on some people faces. I won't name names, you know who they are...

LeDil, you realise they're not talking about finalised hardware right? No need to stock up on eggs just yet ;)

Final devkits won't make a massive difference; there will likely be a slight speed increase but it's not going to be significant. Current devkits are probably running at 80-90% of their final power already.

Plus there's also the fact that by now most games that are scheduled for PS3's launch will have specced out their games and started to build them to a given poly/texture budget and resolution. i.e. It won't matter if the final hardware gets a bit faster because mst of the assets will be unalterable by then.

A final power boost might help with framerates, though.

Anyway, rather than slagging of Sony and the PS3 which I'm sure will be a great console, I for one celebrate the fact that we can all move on, now that it's been established that this new machine doesn't alter the fabric of time and space... Peace...

-No 1080p support (pointless, but still one of those points hyped up by Sony and their 'HD chain')
-Not as powerful as depicted previously (not sure whether Sony were the ones to actually say 'twice as powerful', but their demonstrations from E3 and general stance from then on seemed to imply 'better'.
-Games being made for DVD instead of Blu-ray.

I'd say no, atleast untill it's out for while and then we may see some of the machines abilities being utilised.

Sorry to break it to you, but everyone on here has had realistic expectations of the PS3, and this article merely confirms what we already more or less knew, so no "Haha I told you so!" for you I'm afraid.
I believe LeDil may have been refering to a certain journo's article - although, mysteriously, I can't find "The Real Next Generation" article itself...! :/

Possibly because it was bollocks, eh? :D

I know I'll end up with all three platforms again, anyway, the only issue is what price point the PS3 will have to be before I pick one up.

That's only partially good news since the Dualshock 2 is broken, it has the D-pad and left thumb stick in the wrong place. And the Boomerrang concept model had the Dualshock 2 layout aswell.

The position of the analogue sticks on the DC and GC controllers were the main reason why I never truly got on with them. It took ages to get used to Metroid before it finally "clicked".
